To get annoyed ready conflicting reviews for items?

Looking online for snow boots for dc and tearing my hair out. 1 review reads 5/5, excellent boots. The next is 1/5, feet were freezing, crap, don't buy!

It's like this for everything. Do people just have different expectations? Although I'd expect snow boots to keep feet relatively warm. It's so frustrating!

Same with trip advisor and holiday reviews, why are there such conflicting results Confused

Yes. Wanted to buy bouncy castle like, but much smaller, thingy for DS's party. What a nightmare! 5 star and 1 star reviews - who to believe?

phantomnamechanger · 27/09/2013 19:26

the worst ones are those involving any home assembly - someone will say they managed it on their own in 20mins, others will say it took them and 2 mates a month, and was still wonky!

Well I take them all with a pinch of salt. Are the reviews generally good or generally bad might be a better way to go. And yes people really do ahve different expectations.

GeeTeeEff · 27/09/2013 19:48

It's bloody annoying. I do try and ignore the bad ones if the majority are good but if it's a really bad one it puts me off.

Just be wary of the 5 star reviews on anything these days, a lot are fake and either made up by the sellers/hotel/restaurant/whatever.
Dead giveaways are if the brand name of the product is specifically mentioned in the text.
If you look at trip advisor for instance, you can spot the fakes left by people with only 1-2 reviews to their name, and they will all be similarly worded

prettyfiestyforasmallone · 27/09/2013 21:15

My view is the really bad reviews are written by the competition and the amazing ones are written by the company :)) not helpful :)

GeeTeeEff · 27/09/2013 21:24

I think I'm just going to stop reading individual reviews and go with the average.
