To have kept dd off school today?

She had diarrhea last night around midnight. No sickness just one bout of diarrhea. She is fine today, no more symptoms of any bug. She is now jumping around asking when lunch is. I know the schools policy is sickness and diarrhea they have to be off 48 hours. Also I'm feeling guilty because I volunteered to help out at a sporting event ds is participating in today at school and they are really short on helpers and the HT was a bit arsey with me.

Keeping her off was the right thing, wasn't it? There doesn't seem to be any sign of a bug but didn't really want to chance her having an accident in class or something.

Of course you did the right thing! If your DD had gone to school and passed something on think of the amount to people that would have to take time off work etc! That far outweighs helping at a sports event! Smile

You did the right thing. If you'd sent her in and she had told the teachers, you'd just have a different set of teachers being pissed off with you, except the ones at your dds school would actually have had valid reason.

Thanks. I'm feeling less guilty now. My first day off work during the week in ages so thought I'd volunteer my services for the sporting event. Typical!

You're doing the absolute right thing. I remember when a small grandson had an accident at school - uncontrollable diarrhoea, poor little chap. In any case, the school made the rule about keeping the child away for 48 hours, so you were obeying that rule. As for the sports event, a shame but too bad, you are absolutely in the right and the head was wrong to be 'off' with you.
Hope your son is feeling OK now.

I wouldn't gave kept her off for one loose poo as diarrhoea is the passing of watery stools more frequently than usual so one loose poo wouldn't really count. I quite often pass a watery poo depending on what I have been eating/drinking but wouldn't put it down to a bug.

That's what I initially thought powerhoop She done it in her sleep so didn't wake up with tummy ache beforehand. Oh well she's at home now and I'm up to my elbows in smelly bed sheets from last night. I guess keeping her off was the safest bet.

Nothing wrong with being cautious, but like the previous poster, I wouldn't have kept mine off for that. If I kept them off for two days everytime they had a runny poo they'd never be in! One watery poo does not diarrhoea make.

My mum sent me to school with awful food poisoning because apparently I'd missed too much and had to go back. I've never been as ill in my life as I was then. It was awful, I spent the whole day locked in the school toilets and missed my classes anyway. You did the right thing.

ds ws sick, in school, at the end of the day. the next morning he was fine and bouncing round... very annoying, but off he had to stay. honestly, if the ta hadn't been there and seen for herself, they would have thought i was lying.

You were definitely right to keep her off. The school makes rules for a reason and they expect you to stick to them. They can't get arsey for you sticking to their rules!

Hope she's feeling better and it was just a one off.

DD1 occasionally has one bout of loose poo and I wouldn't keep her off for that if she is otherwise well. Nor did I keep her off after the '3 entire bags of apples' moment one Saturday when she did a couple of loose poos on the Sunday but was also fit and well (and the apples are hidden now).

But YANBU to keep her off today. If you don't know why she was unwell in the night it might be best to have a quiet day. Especially as she didn't wake for it, that would have me thinking a day off is in order to check it's not a bug.

People react differently to stomach bugs and if it's unusual for her to have a loose stool then YANBU to have kept her off. Hopefully that's all it was.

Definitely unusual to poo in her sleep and it not waken her. It was the smell I noticed, I thought the dog had farted.

I too had a touch of the runs last night and was very sick as well . . Maybe something going round but you done absolutely the right thing .

Well she is poorly now, has been throwing up since 4pm :(

I'm glad I didn't send her. On a plus, ds won the sporting event he went to. Shame I missed it.
