My third born who is 13 has to queue for school lunch daily ,., fair enough , lots have to queue ,
However , since going back in September he has had a sandwich or roll as the queue for cooked lunch is always so long he barely gets a chance to eat . . Today he didn't even manage to get a sandwich or a roll . Im sure I read when he joined the school students could come home for lunch if they wish but No,, he says its either school dinners or packed lunch . Looks like Ill be doing him packed lunches in future . . AIBU to think this is not on ? (Don't mean packed lunch, I don't mind, I mean the missing out because of long queues)

Tbh in my school the queues are so bloomin long that they barely get time to eat anyway. I would sent a packed lunch so he has time to eat it !

That's appalling management, if children can't get lunch during the lunch hour.

I think packed lunches are the way to go. I'd be astonished if a 13yo could concentrate properly on an empty stomach.

we have staggered lunch-so yr 7 one day in first then another year etc. that way everyone gets fed. saying that the kitchen staff are coping appalingly if they haven't planned it so there is food for all. Chartwells by any chance? complain to the head, then chair of governors then local paper.

No lunch? That's awful. Give him a packed lunch and complain. Loudly.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/09/2013 19:18

Obviously you get him to make his own packed lunch at his age Wink

quite normal at most big high schools I think. we send dds to school with cash so they buy a sandwich on route or they take stuff from home with them.

lunch time at high school isn't really for eating lots anyway as that breaks into social time..

he's 13 so get him to do his own sandwich in the morning. Grin

Yes , you are right , , He can do his own lunch :) I don't know who supplies their school lunches . Chartwells rings a bell but they may provide at his old school , where my youngest still goes .
