WIBU unreasonable to complain, or am I being PFB?

We've had sky tv installed and I'm a bit annoyed!

The engineer turned up, parked outside the front of the house and decided to walk up the drive, through the back gate and round to the back door, rather than going in and out of the front door. Great!

Except we have a drive with a roof/ shelter over it and sparrows have nested up there, so there's A LOT of bird poop on the drive which the engineer would have walked through, as well as the ground being wet and he didn't take his shoes off when he came in the house. So my floors and rug were covered in mud and bird poo and I have a crawling 1 year old.

When he arrived I made him a cup of tea and asked if he'd mind taking his shoes off when he walked through, but I wasn't in the room with him the whole time as my daughter was really upset with the drilling and banging, so I left him to it while I kept her happy in the kitchen.

WIBU to complain as I have to get our rug cleaned (the floor was just a wipe-up job as it's laminate)? I'm just a bit upset that he found it ok to walk around in dirty, poopy shoes knowing I'd asked him to take them off and because of my daughter crawling around. Or am I being PFB??

If the left damage that you need to pay to get cleaned, complain.

The crawling baby is irrelevant in this situation, and to a certain extent, so is the fact that you asked him to take off his shoes.

He left a mess and didn't clean it up, which is going to leave you out of pocket. That's worth a complaint.

When Sky came to do mine, the engineer put those shoe protectors on....perhaps that is policy?

FeliciaDoolittle · 24/09/2013 13:47

Sky folk are normally very good at taking shoes off/using protectors. I'd call and complain and see what they say.

Vecta · 24/09/2013 13:55

Whilst he should be careful not to make mess and respect your wishes about shoes, I do feel somewhat sorry for him as the birdshit was picked up on your drive. Perhaps you need to hose it down if it is that bad.

Sirzy · 24/09/2013 13:59

I agree with Vecta. TBH if I had known it was that bad I would have encouraged him to use the front door instead

Beastofburden · 24/09/2013 14:57

Sorry, you should clean your drive.

IAmNotAMindReader · 24/09/2013 15:06

YABU you should clean the crap off your drive then there wouldn't be so much of it to tramp around the house. Even less of an excuse as you knew what day the engineer was calling.
Its too much to expect someone to take their shoes off as they go in and out while on a job, however it is not unreasonable to have a mat and ask people to wipe their feet on it on their way in thus minimising dirt traipsed through.

HatieKokpins · 24/09/2013 15:06

Complain, and ... clean your drive.

judgejudithjudy · 24/09/2013 17:07

maybe he should claim for his shoes as it was the bird shit on YOUR drive!

ilovepowerhoop · 24/09/2013 17:35

whenever anyone from Sky has come to us they have always put shoe protectors on

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 24/09/2013 17:39

Well, if he'd used the front door, he wouldn't have trodden in the bird poo! That's a bit odd in itself, I think, going round the back of the house unnecessarily. I'd complain and get them to pay for the cleaning.

WilsonFrickett · 24/09/2013 17:42

Another one saying Sky are usually really careful about using shoe protectors - I'd complain.
