To wonder about Boden online reviews?

I've always found them quite helpful in deciding about things but I wonder whether they're all genuine.

Good reviews often say they ordered two different colours, kept both, and will think about ordering the other colours. It seems a little unlikely that however much you love a garment, you would want the same thing in four different colours??

I have found them very useful particularly last year when most of the summer dresses were cut large. I order the size smaller than I normally would and they fitted perfectly. If had not read the reviews I would have been returning for smaller sizes.

Blush

Errr does it?

I have:

Boden wool dres in blue and brown
Boden jersey tunic in moss, silver and blue
Boden striped tunic in red and navy and white and navy
Emma dress in red, grey and green and purple
Wrap top in red and in blue
Other wrap top in 4 patterns
Summer tunic in 2 patterns
Wool tunic in two patterns
Casual summer dress in red and in stripes

So I would say it's highly accurate.....................

Btw I'm 36, short and a size 22. The Boden stuff looks nice on me. When you find something that works you keep buying it.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 23/09/2013 12:53

Well Dancergirl you see,
I have my school-run 'Hotchpotch' skirt in green, my Tesco trip Hotchpotch skirt in red, my taking the dc to activities HPS in blue, yellow and grey (don't want the other mothers saying I wear the same thing over and over).
My going out HPS is pink, and I have a teal one for walking out down the promenade.
Oh and my funeral HPS is black obvs.

this may be a lie, these items may not even exist, I just like the stupidity of a garment named hotchpotch. Grin

Ok, I stand corrected! Thanks all.

Alex you wear the same skirt on the school run every day? Slacker!

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 23/09/2013 13:28

Hmm Blush There is more than one shade of green in the hotchpotch range you know, Northern.

northernlurker · 23/09/2013 18:45

Oh I see! Grin Well if you'd said 'I wear my green skirts' I wouldn't have been imagining horrors.

Yes indeed - shades:

Moss
Ivy
Forest
Lincoln
Pistachio
Lime
Hunting Green
Apple

and on and on

Some of the reviews are helpful. But most aren't.
"I love this top, the colour really suits my skin tone.( what colour? What skin tone?)
It came to my knees.( well what height are you?!!)
This didn't suit my shape at all.( what shape are you?!)
Comments like those above infuriate me. And most of them will be people going on about how much they liked it/it suited them, without giving any relevant info.

BranchingOut · 23/09/2013 19:49

I am not 100% convinced that they are reliable. I once spent some time constructing some hilarious reviews on some of their less succesful products only to find that they were mysteriously never posted and could not be traced when I contacted customer services. Hmm

Noseynoonoo · 23/09/2013 20:31

I do find the children's clothing reviews odd. My children are both tall for their age. They are both the tallest in their class and in most brands wear clothes 1 or 2 years ahead - except in Boden clothes where the clothes are spot on. However, I've noticed that a lot of parents on Boden reviews comment that their child is tall and that they only just squeezed them into a size 2-3 years older. How can that be? Is this the clothing equivalent of saying your child was a free-reader when they started school? Always makes me wonder.

DontmindifIdo · 23/09/2013 20:35

I haven't done "an ordering several colour ways, planning to return all but one but keeping the lot" Boden order, but then I can't afford 4 or 5 lots of a £60 cardie in one go.

Dilidali · 23/09/2013 20:39

I always buy when the sales are on. By the rime it arrived and I saw how amazing they fit, the rest of them are gone. But there are several things that I can't bear to throw away and kick myself for not buying them in every colour several times over.

Dilidali · 23/09/2013 20:40
  • time. I am getting fed up with typing on the phone!!!! Sorry.
HappyAsEyeAm · 23/09/2013 20:50

I am petite, and there are very few petite ranges around. Boden does a decent range, and I often buy the same item in different colours, as whenever I see something that suits me, I take full advantage! In the autumn/winter range, iI have bought the Amelie dress, Hayley skirt and Peter Pan collar dress, all in at least two colourways. And I am very pleased that I did too!
