Two and a half years after having the mirena fitted?

Don't get me wrong, I love it on the whole. I was going through a moon up in an hour and fainting so needed intervention. But I have pcos and have never been regular. But now I've lost weight and have a bmi of 24 and have had it two and a half years I am having light, annoying, eight day long periods every bloody thirty days. Which sucks when you have a new boyfriend and things planned which are now going to clash! (three kids between us, time alone precious)

God damn, why can't I be one of these people that never have periods on the mirena??

Im now hormonal, crampy and pissed off and looking for a tub of ice cream. Kids all at school Monday and we both have the day off. And not spending it quite how I wanted now!!

I hear ya! I had the mittens fitted fully expecting my periods to stop. Whilst they are lighter, I still get the full on pmt experience every month without fail Angry.

My periods did stop on depo injection but it triggered pcos after I piled in the weight.

Anyway YANBU Grin.

LuckyToHaveYouAll · 14/09/2013 18:46

Mittens Hmm Mirena*

McNewPants2013 · 14/09/2013 18:50

No contraception has ever stopped my periods, and I think aparts from a very rare few days I was light most days.

SpottyDottie · 14/09/2013 18:50

The mirena hasn't helped me at all Sad I have a hospital appointment next week to discuss its removal and other treatment.

smokinaces · 14/09/2013 19:50

The depo stopped mine. But also triggered my pcos, back when I was 19, which was hell so I won't go back.

The mirena has worked for me heaviness wise - I couldn't have continued the way I was, and at least this is more than bearable. Im just miffed that so many get nothing, and for the first time in ages I have the opportunity for rampant sex with no keeping the noise down or one ear open and its bloody ruined by periods!

Ah spotty, has it made no difference to you at all? :-(

random, the thought had crossed my mind. But im only 31, and although bf and I both have children separately and dont think we want any together, we cant be 100% sure. I have this till im 33/34 so by then should know whether I want more children.

Euphemia, that sucks more than my example! Mine were virtually non existent for the first year, I wondered whether losing weight and getting down to a good bmi has made them more regular for me?

And eek at not getting cervix open. Id be fucked then, as my coil fitting was awful and neither ds was natural.

Get it removed! I had new BF at time who luckily was very understanding. It was hideous, non stop bleeding for months. I eventually got sterilised because I didnt want more DC. Honestly mirena was horrendous. I could hardly go out in public because of flow. HORRENDOUS!

Turniptwirl · 14/09/2013 21:40

No pco for me thankfully but cerazette pill stopped my periods altogether and I love it!

Hope you all find something!

WillowKnicks · 14/09/2013 21:42

Oh heck, I had one fitted 4 weeks ago along with a D & C, due to having non stop, ridiculously heavy bleeding (think 2 days off very, very occasionally & on constant medication to lesson the bleeding!).

After the initial surgery bleeding etc I am now enjoying Sad a 2 week period that seems to have no intention of slowing down...doesn't bode well, does it?"

Also, I seem to be losing handfuls of hair daily...anyone else had this with the mirena?

smokinaces · 14/09/2013 22:17

Whitesugar, I can't have mine removed. I would pass out from blood loss again, and am banned from any other type of contraceptive by my gynea for a few years yet, if not forever. This was last ditch attempt. I give it 9/10 to be fair. Just pissed my shagathon will have to wait. Grr.

Turnip, I used to love the pill for running packs back to back to skip periods. Damn being banned from them.

Willow, my hair has thinned I will give you that. But I had shite loads to begin with. Mine took 4-6 months when I got it for it all to be "normal" so there is hope.

After DS I took Cerazette, was fab for a year then I started to bleed heavily for around 11 weeks until I stopped taking the pill.

Now after having DD I've got the implant... exact same thing (it's the same hormones). Currently have been bleeding for a fortnight and no idea how long it'll last before I get annoyed and go to GP... I really like the implant otherwise.

Angry

Sorry but chuckling at the poster who had mittens fitted in their womb GrinGrinGrin
Had the mirena for the full five years, started off with hardly any bleeding yet got progressively worse year on year when if was due to come out I was flooding constantly. Now taking cerezette and not had a period since the end of April hurray!

homeagain · 15/09/2013 02:00

Had Mirena for 2.5 years and ended up pregnant with it still perfectly in position . . . Just think it's fair to let people know that that can and does happen.

kali110 · 15/09/2013 02:59

Iv never heard anything good about mirena from friends for this exact reason. My periods also stopped when i took cerazette! Fucking love this pill. Its been great having 7 years of no periods and will continue for aslong as i can....

StHelenInPerson · 15/09/2013 07:50

Iv had mine a year n half and had my period get lighter and shorter these past few months and now I'm 17 days late,so think its finally stopping mine now.i poas 3x just to be sure though don't want any surprises.

Your symptoms might still change,i used to get terrible ovulation pain.

Morloth · 15/09/2013 08:23

I had mirena put in about 6 months ago.

Freaking love the thing.

Wentbfrom flooding through maternity pads repeatedly to now not even needing anything during in my 'period'.

I still get a bit of pmt and it unfortunately hasn't helped with the migraines but still a good result.
