To think that I shouldn't have to drive yet again?!

Going to the theatre tonight with a group of old school friends. It was my idea, I saw the show advertised so I organised it for a suitable date and bought tickets etc etc.

(Back note: we moved house a couple of years ago and now live 30mins away from where I grew up- and where these friends still live)

The theatre is an hour away from where I live, but 20mins from where friends' live.
We've arranged to meet at a service station at nearest m-way junction to friends' location, and all travel in one car.
Cue the excuses from every one of us about why we can't drive the remainder of the journey Confused
My excuse being that I get seriously panicky when I drive in this particular city- owing mostly to the fact that the two accidents I have ever had, happened there! Hmm

Eventually one of the girls reluctantly agreed to drive but I've had a text from her this morning to say she has a problem with her car! And apparently her and the other girls have decided that as it was my idea, I should be the one to drive the rest of the journey!

AIBU to be pretty fucking pissed off by this? Or are they right- because it was my idea, I should be the one to drive AGAIN.

Sorry, back note should also state that since we moved, whenever I meet up with them (all together or separately) I have to drive to them, not the other way around Confused

Bus? Train? Taxi? If it is twenty minutes from your friends location you could drive to a house there then taxi/ bus/ train rest of way? Theatres tend to be accessible by some form of public transport.

WowOoo · 12/09/2013 11:25

Public transport then.
Or tell them that you really, really don't want to drive this time.

Driving somewhere you don't like driving isn't nice. And it's far worse when there are passengers chatting. So tell them.

RedHelenB · 12/09/2013 11:30

None of you want to drive so best idea is to share a taxi. Sorted!

phantomhairpuller · 12/09/2013 11:31

That's just it, they know how I feel about driving in this city yet they're still trying to convince me.

I've suggested public transport, a couple of them aren't keen as they've no money Confused

And I've just realised how bloody pathetic this all sounds. Wow Confused

Big taxi definitely .

No parking to sort out or pay for and less fuel consumption. Everyone pays their share and you all have an equally good time.

fluffyraggies · 12/09/2013 11:33

Yep, drive to one of theirs and then share the cost of a taxi. No one owes anyone for petrol, and everyone's happy.

edlyu · 12/09/2013 11:33

If they have no money how were they going to pay their share of parking and fuel to get to the show?

fluffyraggies · 12/09/2013 11:34

Surely a taxi split ... what is it, 4 ways? ... for a 20 min journey there and back wont be that much?

TidyDancer · 12/09/2013 11:36

What are the other excuses for not stepping in?

There's a town near me that is notorious for problems on the roads, so I understand your hesitancy.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/09/2013 11:37

OP have you been paid back yet for the tickets? If not I can see you ending up out of pocket. This must have been fixed up a while ago, bags of time to sort out transport but sounds rather one way to me. Taxi but everyone chips in don't pick up the tab.

ChunkyPickle · 12/09/2013 11:52

Service stations near me only let you park for 2 hours, or they charge you - are you sure that you can leave cars there for longer?

phantomhairpuller · 12/09/2013 12:04

Not been paid back yet for tickets but I'm fairly certain they won't leave me out of pocket.

Service station isn't an actual m-way stop, it's a fuel station and a Starbucks about 0.2miles from junction. It's a fairly usual meeting place and I'm sure cars have been here much longer than 2hrs in the past!
