He doesn't think there is anything unusual about this. I think it wakes me up all night, and it's driving me nuts. Been going on for years and I really just want to move into the spare room. Aibu not to share a bed and also a bit worried about him??

Possible sign of prostate problems.

Or drinking too much in the evening.

SomethingOnce · 09/09/2013 01:22

Nocturia

livinginwonderland · 09/09/2013 07:49

If I drink a lot within an hour or two of going to bed, I get up 2-3 times a night to pee. I've been to the doctor but it's just me. My bladder can never seem to handle a lot of liquid - been like that all my life!

ILoveAFullFridge · 09/09/2013 07:52

He should pee sitting down.

And go to the GP to get his prostate checked.

lottiegarbanzo · 09/09/2013 08:13

Not normal

lottiegarbanzo · 09/09/2013 08:13

And I hope he never stays in youth hostels, or other shared accommodation!

Can I ask why pee sitting down?

complexnumber · 09/09/2013 08:14

Is there a medical reason why he should pee sitting down?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2013 08:15

Presumably if he sits down it would be quieter and less likely to wake op?

MackerelOfFact · 09/09/2013 08:15

Yes, doctor. Could be prostate issues, overactive bladder, diabetes - all sorts of things. It's not normal.

MrsMook · 09/09/2013 08:16

Sounds like he needs a trip to the doctors.

coco27 · 09/09/2013 08:16

Needs to see his GP

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 09/09/2013 08:16

Ah, thought it might be that (assuming en suite bathroom). But the getting out of bed part would wake me up ...

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 09/09/2013 08:17

My last post was in reply To ItsAll

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2013 08:20

Sounds a bit more than usual. My DH sometimes needs to go several times a night but that's to do with the medications he's on.

YANBU to want to move into the spare room. I did years ago - DH snores too, and likes the lights out earlier than I do. There are occasional threads about separate rooms - lots of us do it and have happy marriages despite (or because!) of it.

whois · 09/09/2013 08:22

If I have a couple of pints of water to drink before bed, I can easily get up two times to wee eg if I've had a late sports match. Is he drinking too much before bed? He might also be in the habit of going so much, and you kind of train your bladder to signal full when it's not really. Probably worth a trip to the dr though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2013 08:23

If you wee sitting down you empty the bladder more effectively. (I think that's why, I've heard it somewhere).

Could be prostate, diabetes or just too much fluid after dinner.

Latara · 09/09/2013 09:59

How old is he?

Definitely should go to the GP.

Faverolles · 09/09/2013 10:03

If it's been going on for years, it sounds like this is normal for him, so probably not a medical issue.
He needs to drink larger amounts and more often during the day, but stop an hour or two before bedtime. Avoid caffeine.
It sounds like a habit.

If it is a new thing, or he feels like he needs to wee but struggles to, then definitely see his GP.

AnyFucker · 09/09/2013 10:05

GP

he doesn't by any chance suffer from any kind of anxiety? there is a spastic bladder disorder thing related to anxiety which my brother suffers from when a period of depression hits. I hope very much for him it isn't, but add it to the list of what to investigate.

LongTimeLurking · 09/09/2013 12:04

Does it bother him? I get pissed off if I wake up to pee at all during the night, never mind 3 times a night every night!

When he goes does he actually have a full bladder or has he got into the habit of needing to empty a small dribble every couple of hours?

Lots of possible medical problems could cause this or it could just be a combination of drinking a lot of fluids and getting into the habit of going too often. Either way there are probably medications that can help.

ILoveAFullFridge · 09/09/2013 14:24

The peeing sitting down is simply to make less noise.

But even if he has been like this for years, there could be a medical reason that ought to be checked out. If it is habit then he can retrain his bladder, but there's no point doing that if there is an underlying medical condition.

Does he wee as frequently uring the day?

colourmehappytheresasofainhere · 09/09/2013 16:29

I am not sure but will enquire! Thanks for all replies, very helpful
