Mentioned on my Weasley thread, but thought I would start a thread about it.

The poor man really didnt seem to quite get what was going on. He was fine answering the questions but PP was clearly explaining a lot to him as it went on and was "managing" him (for want of a better word) by moving him about etc.

He had such an amazing life force when he was younger but he is an old man now, leave him be!

I went to see a recording of Pointless Celebrities and there were contestants a lot younger than him who didn't have a clue what was going on!

SarahAndFuck · 07/09/2013 21:38

Perhaps he needs the money? Do they get paid for it?

Sounds very sad though, if he was struggling.

Floralnomad · 07/09/2013 21:38

I agree ,I actually said to my husband that I thought there was something wrong with him , he didnt seem to know whether he was on foot or horseback . Very sad .

thegreylady · 07/09/2013 21:40

I just watched it on iPlayer ans agree absolutely,so sad.

Effective · 07/09/2013 21:41

I had a very similar conversation with DH - it was a sad sight.

Mind you I felt similarly when i overtook Peter Duncan in the last few miles of the LM last year. He's not that old, but so not what he was - I'm really not very quick!

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 21:42

John Noakes was and is amazing, but I just felt that he shouldnt have been there. Perhaps he is like my Dad, sharp as a tack 90% of the time and would have been very enthusiastic when signing up for it, but once there gets a bit lost and confused.

Sarah it was for charity, so not sure if they do get paid for it. On the one hand one would assume not, given it is for charity but on the other perhaps they do so the BBC get decent guests and not Z list CelebBB cast offs.

Just realised that was a terrible boast - wasn't meant to be. It's just thatJohn Noakes and (maybe a bit less so) Peter Duncan seemed invincible, could do anything. It changed somthing to find out he wasn't any stronger than me!

SarahAndFuck · 07/09/2013 21:51

A quick google and a guardian link says that celebrities do get paid an appearance fee for game shows.

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 21:59

Effective I know what you mean. Its like the first time you have a grown up row discussion with your parents and they concede that you are right, its the day you realise that you are not a child anymore!

I haven't seen the John Noakes episode, I guess it was on tonight but when Cannon and Ball were on, Bobby Ball didn't have a clue what was going on. I assumed it was because he had never seen the show before, perhaps it was the same for John Noakes.

Tonight's episode is on Sky+ I might give it a miss from what everyone is saying.

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 22:03

Interesting article. I agree that the shows probably dont care, but I would like to think that the celebs do. Although that said, I would probably have more time for a celeb (say the Phelps on Pointless, not picking on them, just an example) said that they would donate the amount of money to the charity regardless of whether they won. The Phelps (again, just an example) could easily afford £1.25k each to their charity of choice.

I wouldn't know about that Bogey - my dad has never conceded that he was wrong, to anyone!

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 22:05

Ok....erm.....seeing your ex bastard/bitch teacher when you are a grown up and thinking "Why was I every scared of you?"

Tbf, took almost 40 years before my mother conceded anything and that was about my fathers health which is #1 in her priority list!

I thought the Phelps promoted their charity brilliantly though. I had never head of it but went off to Google it when they flashed their bracelets. Tbh it makes me cringe when celebs make huge charitable gestures(which are tiny to them) in public. Who knows what they do privately and the publicity that small charity got tonight is worth far more than £1k

Eastpoint · 07/09/2013 22:15

Help Harry Help Others is a brilliant charity now run by Harry Moseley's mother. I was so pleased when they promoted it. (I follow the charity's Facebook page).
