3 days before term starts. DS1 starting secondary school. Have spent a small fortune on uniform, equipment, bldy rugby mouthguards, memory sticks.... can't imagine the total cost. He has now lost his mobile. Can't find it anywhere - had it the day before we went on holiday, hasn't seen it since we got back on Wednesday. I've searched the house, no sign. So he cheerfully expects me to buy him a new phone - and as he is getting the bus to another town for school, I will have to! GRRRRR! Could so do without yet more expense.

a 99p ugly phone from Tesco then loaded with a tenner pay as you go deducted from his pocket money.

lizzzyyliveson · 31/08/2013 14:01

Get a very cheap pay as you go one from Tesco. If he is embarrassed about it, tough. He can search high and low for the missing one.

OHforDUCKScake · 31/08/2013 14:03

Yup. Super mega cheapo phone.

Problem solved. Grin

Ahlaam · 31/08/2013 14:03

I second Laurie's advice. It will give him time to save up for a 'better' phone if he so wishes.

Yep that was what I was planning. And to t hink he was eyeing up the blackberries in Tesco this morning! Dream on.

DS got a festival/party phone for 3.95 with GBP10 credit from carphone warehouse. because there is no way on this earth I would let him take his iphone

JumpingJackSprat · 31/08/2013 14:13

Dp uses a cheapo £10 from tesco phone - it makes and recieves calls and texts, job done!!

Dobbiesmum · 31/08/2013 14:24

Yep, DH for reasons unknown got Ds a very nice smartphone for when he started high school. 2 months ago he smashed the screen and it's completely dead. He now has a £10 phone he can only make phone calls and send texts on. And he has to show it to me every night until he proofs to me he can be trusted to look after it.

I've just resurrected my old phone, so if his mobile doesn't turn up he will have to use my lame 'Mum' phone. Wink The slightly worrying thing is that I'm wondering if I put his phone in a 'safe' place before we went on holiday, and have no idea where...........
