To think the police won't be able to do anything

I parked the car on free on street parking opposite an M&s simply food then we went for lunch. When we got back there was a note on the car telling us that a female banged a shopping trolley into our car leaving scratches on the front wing (we also found the bumper was marked) she then drove off in a grey coloured x make of car registration no. Xxx xxx

Except the witness didn't leave their contact details so they aren't a witness really and the woman can just deny it.

My dad whose car it is reckons there's about £300-400 of damage.

It's pointless reporting it isn't it?

The Police aren't stupid. If they decide to see her about it, they aren't going to say, "but we have no evidence" just that she was seen. She may admit it. Is there CCTV?

£300-400 worth of damage for a few scratches? Really?

dancemom · 22/08/2013 16:21

Report it.

There may be CCTV or the driver may not deny it.

Sirzy · 22/08/2013 16:22

Must be some serious scratches for a trolley to cause that much damage!

I would contact your local station see what they say.

Dad says its not worth going through insurance by the tune you've paid the excess and the inflated prices insurance garages charge.

I expect you'd have to take her to court to get any money out of her

And if she's skint, probably in tiny installments?

Picturesinthefirelight · 22/08/2013 16:29

We're on holiday too. It's an affluent commuter town.

That's neither here nor there Lol

AnythingNotEverything · 22/08/2013 16:36

But you still ought to report it - you never know, she may just deal with it without involving insurers.

You ought to do something! Even if it comes to nothing, you've tried.

WeAreEternal · 22/08/2013 16:38

I would report it.
