To think this insurance company should have thought before sending this e-mail?

We had an e-mail from our pet insurance company today with a chance to win M&S vouchers if we filled out this questionnaire about how much we love our dog. We do love our dog she is part of the family. We sadly had to have her put to sleep on Sunday. Sad The idiots at the insurance company know this because we rang them on Monday to tell them and cancel the policy. They've never even sent an e-mail ever before we don't need any more reminders that we no longer have her.

I realise it's 'only a dog', but we had, had her nearly thirteen years, and she saw us through the heartache of six miscarriages until we had our DD last March, they were both very fond of each other.

It may well have been an automatically generated one. Was there an unsubscribe option on the email?

Sorry about your dog, they do become part of the family.

That's horrible and really upsetting. When my mum died my poor dad was told by the insurance company that they had to talk to the policy holder, not him, when he was sorting out his claim. My mum was the policy holder.

YANBU but I'm afraid it's an automated email which will have been sent using a mailing list that will have been compiled weeks ago. The best you can do is send them a message saying how distressing it was to receive this email and ask them what they can do to stop it happening again.

Long ago I worked on printed mail shots for a large takeover of an insurance company and our mailing lists were compiled about 3 weeks beforehand and then we would get 'death list' of policyholders who had died in the intervening period and we had to pull all the letters out by hand. Even doing that it was never 100% successful.

Very sorry to hear about your dog. Sad

Sorry to hear that.

Even if the mailing list was generated in the past day, chances are they were extracting any policyholder with a policy in force from their database, and I would guess your policy will remain in force until any outstanding claim is settled.
