To think Mumsnet should NOT be advertising

Clearly totally unproven weight loss tablets,

"Even after taking a single capsule fat is immediately destroyed and literally flushed out of the body. On the first day of losing weight people lost 2 lbs, but that was only the beginning. If you take the Nutrition capsules on a daily basis, they make the body enter the constant fat-burning mode. They prevent hunger from appearing and turn fat into energy."

Follow the link when it comes up on the right with the picture of the man and see for yourselves. Or is it only on my screen because I have eaten too much this week?

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 18/08/2013 22:07

I've not seen that...

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 18/08/2013 22:07

And I've just been to a tacky "All you can eat" Chinese restaurant!

HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:07

Also, there are usually clever scientist / doctor types on here that can tell me why these things are clearly dodgy.

WorraLiberty · 18/08/2013 22:08

I started a thread in site stuff about it the other day

I think it's a spoof ad or something

I'm not sure if HQ did anything about it though?

ArgyMargy · 18/08/2013 22:08

Hmm. Agreed. I can't see the advert but from what you've said, YANBU. Shame on you, Mumsnet.

lougle · 18/08/2013 22:10

It's not 'shame on Mumsnet.' It's automatic according to your computer cookies. If MN are alerted, they can exclude the ad from their pool. The best way to do it is to use 'Site Stuff' because that is the topic they monitor. If you report this thread, they'll see it and deal with it, I'm sure.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 18/08/2013 22:16

Mine say "Value Water coolers" and "Investors!" Hmm OP you've been searching weight loss and your cookies presented you with what they thought you're interested in!

ArgyMargy · 18/08/2013 22:17

Gosh those cookies sure are clever. So I don't get any adverts because..?? GrinGrin

WorraLiberty · 18/08/2013 22:17

Exactly lougle

I don't know why people often jump to the conclusion that MNHQ allow these things, instead of checking.

ShellyBoobs · 18/08/2013 22:19

Why didn't you put Clearly totally unproven weight loss tablets in the subject line of the thread?

HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:20

Am on an IPad, not sure if that makes a difference. But, it is currently offering, in the same spot, "Top Pipe Cleaning" and I have never searched that (or weight loss). They shouldn't "rent" or whatever, gaps to be filled via cookies. This is not very sound. Not a spoof either.

OP posts:
HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:22

Because it wouldn't fit.....I don't mind advertising but it should be for products which work / are not exploiting insecurities. Not dodgy companies.

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 18/08/2013 22:22

I've never seen the weightloss advert. Mine says Boden and I can't stand the stuff.

HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:24

Now moved on to College courses so NOT linked to my searching!!!!

OP posts:
wharrgarbl · 18/08/2013 22:24

AdBlock Plus. I never see ads at all.

ShellyBoobs · 18/08/2013 22:26

They're Google ad feeds, aren't they?

The content is dependant on your search history so not everyone will be seeing the same things.

Although, I've never searched for any Boden related, but that's what I''m seeing.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 18/08/2013 22:29

I'm currently being bombarded with Featherdown Farms adverts.

They look very nice but I'm really not interested.Grin

JulieMumsnet · 18/08/2013 22:30

Hi,

I can only see an advert for Toyota.

We are looking into things but it would help if you're able to take a screen shot of the advert for us, please.

HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:34

How do you screen shot on an iPad? Genuine question. I thought I was quite tech savvy....clearly not.

Press and hold the Power button, and press the Home button, release both simultaneously. You will hear a camera shutter sound. The image will be stored in the Photo app.

Thank you for the link, I'll pass it on.

Callaird · 18/08/2013 22:40

Screen shot = power off button and home button simultaneously.

lougle · 18/08/2013 22:40

Grin Well that photo is clearly adjusted. The woman has not only lost weight, but her neck has grown at least an inch and her head has shrunk in the process.

HamletsSister · 18/08/2013 22:47

Thanks for screen shot advice...very cool. Will do that when it comes up again.

OP posts:
MumnGran · 18/08/2013 22:50

Boden & Featherdown Farm here, too.
Obviously a limited number of sites y=using the ad spoace, if they are search related.

OP ...if you use Yahoo? the same thing happens with side panel ads, there.

Ilovemyself · 18/08/2013 23:46

Isn't it ironic that you were given a weight loss advert because of cookies. Grin
