To think DP is wrong?

To me tomorrow is the start of this week and the bank holiday Monday is next week. The week we have just had is last week.

DP thinks that tomorrow is next week and the bank holiday Monday is the week after next week. The week we have just had is this week.

AIBU to think I am right?

I thought i would throw it open to the MN jury!

You are correct - unless you are Jewish or a Seventh-Day Adventist, when Saturday is the 'seventh day' on which God rested. For most other religions, Monday is the first day of the week, and Sunday is the 'seventh day'....

Clear as mud..!! Smile

VoiceOfRaisin · 18/08/2013 15:55

I think that if you are Christian the week starts on Monday, and if you are Jewish then it starts on Sunday. Not sure about the other religions but think that many have Friday night/ Saturday as their last day of the week. So it kind of depends on which religion you and your DP favour.

delilahlilah · 18/08/2013 15:59

For me, if you say this Monday you are speaking in the future tense and therefore that would be the nearest Monday ie tomorrow. Next Monday would be BH and last Monday would be the one most recently in the past.
When you talk about 'this Xmas' you mean the one that is coming, surely? Last Xmas would be 2012, not the nod before that? So I apply the same usage to days of the week.

delilahlilah · 18/08/2013 16:00

*one not bloody nod
Sodding auto correct!

Myliferocks · 18/08/2013 16:00

We're not religious at all.
He'll love the fact that most people agree with him!
In answer to the question about weekends. Today is this weekend, the 24/25 is next weekend and the 10/11 was last weekend.
I think the problem is that I tend to view weeks as mon-fri and the weekend is just an add on.
Thank you to the people who agree with me!

I'd say this week for tomorrow and this week.

Next week for week beginning bank holiday Monday.

I know we're not quite at tomorrow yet, but I know if I said 'this week we are visiting parents' you wouldn't all think blimey, that's a short visit Grin

KissMeHardy · 18/08/2013 16:07

You're all wrong. Grin

It's...........this coming week, and the week after next.

MrsMcEnroe · 18/08/2013 16:21

OP you are right and your DP wrong Grin

Tomorrow, the day after etc are "this week."

Bank Holiday Monday is "next week."

I always get into heated arguments spirited debate over this very issue when organising childcare, staffing, social engagements... Why can't everyone just do things MY way?!

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 18/08/2013 16:27

MrsMcEnroe NO! It's not this week yet until tomorrow!

MrsMcEnroe · 18/08/2013 19:42

Oh yes it is Wink

maddening · 18/08/2013 20:46

Bank holiday weekend is next week but bank holiday monday is the week after next. Or a week tomorrow.
