Christmas cards seen Aug 16

In one of those 'cheapy' card shops - a whole aisle of them.
I get that many people spread the cost throughout the year (every year I mean to do this!) but why would this be necessary for CARDS!!
Isn't August 16th too early?

It's too early for anything Christmas related.

Sirzy · 17/08/2013 22:02

I was in a garden centre today which had some.

TylerHopkins · 17/08/2013 22:03

I love the Christmas season, all the anticipation. Totally commercial of course but it makes me feel all fuzzy and cosy.

Too much Wine tonight!

Figgygal · 17/08/2013 22:04

I swear I saw someone carrying wrapping paper in an m&s Xmas bag today it was red with stars and birds I wanted to beat her over the head with the rolls.

And yes I saw in our local cheap card shop rows of Xmas cards yesterday it's ridiculous

Meglet · 17/08/2013 22:05

I spotted some in our cheapy card shop yesterday.

XP's family send a silly amount of cards, not one card for each household / family. It's one card for each person in each house. I'm sure it explains why they chop the rainforests down Hmm.

Sirzy · 17/08/2013 22:06

I love Christmas but hate cards - I don't see the point in sending a card to someone you are going to see and can say happy Christmas to!

NarkyNamechanger · 17/08/2013 22:08

I saw some in the card factory last Saturday (10th).

CeliaLytton · 17/08/2013 22:16

I bloody love Christmas!

(Irrelevant)

RevoltingPeasant · 17/08/2013 22:16

Funnily enough, I was buying knickers in MnS today and the woman remarked that soon they would be getting the Xmas patterns in.

ilovesooty · 17/08/2013 22:19

Christmas knickers?

Bloody hell.

I hate Christmas anyway.

ClaraOswald · 17/08/2013 22:20

My local Tesco had the tubs of Quality Street out today.

Jan49 · 17/08/2013 22:50

I can't stand Christmas. I was looking for a birthday card for a relative last week and realised the cards for relatives I was about to look at were actually Christmas cards for relatives. Then felt embarrassed in case anyone thought I was actually looking at Christmas cards to buy in August. Blush

MrsBW · 17/08/2013 22:53

If people didn't buy them, stores wouldn't stock them.

They don't fill valuable selling floor space with stuff that doesn't shift.

MrsBW · 17/08/2013 22:53

I wish I knew who on earth bought Christmas stuff this early though...

MrsBW · 17/08/2013 22:54

Hmmmm.... Quality Street

What about the Christmas shop in Cheddar. Open all year round!

FatAssPantaloons · 17/08/2013 22:58

I'm terribly sorry but I have already begun my xmas shopping. I have no excuse! Blush

MisselthwaiteManor · 19/08/2013 08:09

I've started my Xmas shopping already. It spreads the cost and I find it easier/not at all stressful to think of suitable gifts if I have plenty of time to spot something instead of sweeping the shelves of some kind of 3 for 2 bubble bath shite on Xmas eve. I don't bother with cards so wouldn't buy them now but I don't see why not, cards are expensive IMO! Especially if you're sending loads.

Sirzy · 19/08/2013 08:10

I have started my christmas shopping but still think its too early for shops to be heading towards specific christmas displays or items like cards!

trinity0097 · 19/08/2013 08:54

I saw tubs of quality street for sale in Tescos by the door. Not long until the back to school stuff gets put away and th Christmas stuff can come out, with a brief reprieve for Halloween!

Guadalupe · 19/08/2013 08:57

We went for dinner yesterday to a riverside pub as it was such a lovely sunny day. There was a small Christmas tree by the entrance, complete with coloured lights, advertising that they were taking Christmas booking. Bizarre.

goldenlula · 19/08/2013 09:01

The card factory had them on the 5th August. Ridiculous!

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 19/08/2013 09:10

Some of the charity shops in town have them already.

I do buy some presents early, partly to spread the cost and partly to avoid the last minute panic. I put them in a locked suitcase so they don't sit around for months.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 19/08/2013 09:15

I propose Christmas is moved as it would be convenient for shops and would free up December. The shops start selling beachwear the nanosecond Christmas is finished and some think the Baby Jesus was born in September anyway.
