AIBU to suggest we should have a benefits topic?

I've just looked through all the topics and can't find one that is for 'benefits' questions.

I have noticed that whenever the topic is broached by a poster, the thread is usually in chat or sometimes AIBU and it dissolves into a debacle about benefit scroungers or over zealous posters explaining why you should not criticise people on benefits and 9 times out of 10, it becomes an arguement between two opposing poles & the person's question goes unanswered

Given how many of us are in receipt of benefits would it not be a good idea to have a dedicated area for people to ask questions and receive responses from those of us who can offer practical advice and have knowledge surrounding them that we can pas on?

if there was a dedicated area sort of like 'legal' matters it might lead to people being able to ask questions without judgement and receive useful answers

Is this a good idea for MNHQ or a bad one?

It could link to the actual government pdf's on things such as housing benefit, CTC, WTC, DLA, JSA, ESA etc

I feel this would be a useful and practical addition to MN but that might just be me? What do you think?

ironically you posted this is aibu instead of site stuff

ValiumQueen · 15/08/2013 18:51

When I have had questions about Tax Credits I have posted in the Money Matters section.

ImNotBloody14 · 15/08/2013 18:53

I think money matters is about as good a place as any to discuss benefits really. it doesn't tend to attract the goady types and a thread asking for advice there usually gets factually accurate answers/advice.

DrDance · 15/08/2013 18:53

ok so judging from the answers so far I'm posting in the wrong area. Fair enough message received.

Do you have an opinion on my suggestion?

I think it's a good idea, but there will still be people that post in the 'wrong' forum. Take this thread for example Wink

DrDance · 15/08/2013 19:23

kinkyfuckery if there was a benefits area though , people could suggest to op to post again in there , the same way people do with relationship questions that turn up in AIBU/Chat

Thanks to those who suggested money matters. I've had a closer look and can see a good few thread about tax credits but none about jsa/esa/dla/HB/CT?

Is there a separate area for people to discuss and ask for advice on these benefits?
