or is this price actually normal?

I get married in six months. We are not in the area we are getting married in so I will have a 2.5 hr journey to attend a trial for hair and makeup.

I googled local beauticians etc and contacted the only one I could find. ...They've just quoted me £165 JUST for my make up. Would i be unreasonable to tell her she is having an absolute laugh or am I just expecting too much? I anticipated about £150 for hair and makeup. . I get married very late afternoon at a private ceremony following a dinner with my new husband, its not like im wearing it all day like a bride getting married late morning would. I'll be wiping it off after a few hours!

I wander if tidy's gluezilla is using them, they sound equally unreasonable imo lol!!

I have no idea if that's reasonable or not as I did my own hair and makeup.

Perhaps do that instead if it's just for a few hours?

Just looked and at the one nearish to me the bridal make up (including trial) is £60.

A friend did mine. Sounds bonkers. Might pay that for a permanent work of art to hang on my wall, but not one on my face that lasts a few hours!

I am a make up artist. That is less than I charge for bridal.

She's just told me hair would be another £150. .

Check out the makeup counters at the big department stores. I often get my makeup done at Estee Lauder for $50Au which is redeemable on a purchase (which I use anyway, so it's essentially free to havemy makeup done).

No that's quite a lot of money.. ring round! Best place these days is facebook! Try wedding find it buy it, you should get lots of quotes x

Its been a few years now, but I didn't pay anything like that and neither did my sister. I used the BodyShop and she used Mac, I don't know if that helps.

Post in Chat with the name of the area in the title of your thread saying "Looking for wedding hair/makeup in WeddingTown".

Of course if this is the ONLY person in the area then they probably will charge a lot.

I did my own makeup. I know my face better than anyone and I wanted to look like me.

I'm good at makeup but you have 6 months to practice. Why not go to several make up counters for make overs and see what you like then buy the products and have a few trial runs yourself?

Disclaimer - I am a control freak and could not risk someone else screwing up my blusher on the day!

If you're not getting married until later in the day and that is the best price you can get a hairdresser for, I'd book an appointment in the salon tbh!

I would expect to pay £150 for hair - no idea about make up though

Mine is charging £130 for hair and make up for me, and about £50 for hair for each bridesmaid. I did get some quotes that were quite a bit more expensive though, like you say. Can you go to a local hairdressers for your hair? And have a trial/lesson at a make up counter so that you can do your own make up?

Im going to call the wedding planner and ask for a list of recommendations. Noone else showed in my Google searches, it was just this place hogging the first page.

You know what else, this price isn't even for the artist the company is run by- she was busy so I was quoted for someone she trained instead.

It just seems nuts. The price of my wedding band for some make up ill be wiping off by 9:30pm!

Ask on Facebook there are usually a lot of young women on there who do home visits. I have my hair done by a newly qualified girl who is lovely and very good at it too.

Also my friend owns a hair salon, she's really good and they charge £30 bridal practice, £35 on the day and £30 bridesmaids/guests. We're in the South East if that makes a difference Confused

Seems expensive to me. Do you have a breakdown of what that includes? Or is it literally just your makeup on the day?

Some makeup artists have a starter package in which they charge a call-out fee, bride on the day, brides trial, 1 bridesmaid or similar and then you can add on extras such as other bridesmaids is it possible she has done something like this but not really explained it to you.

I just wondered whether the £150 included the cost of the make up, I know someone who paid a lot (can't remember how much) but she got to keep all the make up. If you do, then it's not so bad

Why would anyone (other than a multi-millionaire or pirncess who is not counting) pay £165 for make-up? Go for a lesson at a make-up counter in a department store and then do it yourself.

Honestly it included my trial and on the day. No make up to keep. No bridesmaids (not having any..its just us!)

if I was keeping the make up used, id be ok with it!

You probably mentioned the 'W' word when asking for a quote - that adds 00s on to any amount they tell you. (They think you're going to be so punchy that you'll just say yes and sign the cheque.) Madness.

I'd definitely say that sounds expensive then, comparing it to prices of makeup artists where I am. I'm a makeup artist and think anyone who charged that for
