To just want my laptop back now?

I sent it off to be repaired due to a minor but annoying fault. They said it would take 10 days. That was a month ago, and now they're saying they won't have the part they need until at least September.

I've been in touch with their customer service and they keep saying they'll call me back on x day, which they never do. I then got in touch with them on twitter, complaining about the crap customer service and the time I've had to wait. They sent me an email back saying head office will call me within 3 working days, lo and behold today is the third working day and still no call.

AIBU to be furious and to ask them to give me a replacement? I really wish I hadn't bothered to get it fixed now. Does anybody know how long is a reasonable time to wait for this sort of thing?

That is appalling.

Get back onto Twitter. Which company is it? Tweet every fifteen minutes if you can until something is done about it.

mirry2 · 30/07/2013 15:18

Insist on a temporary (and equivalent) replacement and also write to them stating you want it repaired or replaced by 1st September (or whatever date you think is reasonable) otherwise you'll take them to the small claims court.

wonderingsoul · 30/07/2013 15:22

that is far to long imo, esp with out them phoning you and appogizing.

does it have to be fixed by them? or can you take it else where?

which company is it and i would be asking for a refund or a new one? depending on the fault..

also you help you with cost of calling if its an o8 £100 a minutes number to call. also does normal numbers to.

if you have a smart phone down load the app weq4y there s a free one aswell as apaid opne but it takes over the queing and basically reconnects when they answer, it tells you how much youv saved aswell at the end. i save £4.20 from when i had top phone my ha housing number.

Okay, I've sent an email asking for a replacement or I'll take them to the small claims court.

I'm really tempted to name and shame them on here but will see what their response is first.

It's so frustrating :(

Just to compare, has anyone here had a laptop repaired an how long did it take?

I bet this is a very large company indeed - they had our monitor for months

SecretSix · 30/07/2013 19:55

A local independent shop fixed mine, took about 3 days and cost £45 with part. They also advised me for free on phone when I thought it had gone again.

happycake · 30/07/2013 21:11

3 days! it took them that long just to collect mine. the first 2 days the couriers 'cancelled' and forgot to let me know, so I was waiting all day with my laptop packed up when I could have been using it :(

I took my laptop back to pc world when the fan stopped working. They had it for a month so I went in and complained, so they offered me my money back to spend on any laptop in store.

You should definitely keep complaining until you get a resolution , they are being very unreasonable!

SomeTeaPlease · 31/07/2013 06:08

I had my laptop sent out for a new hard drive. Took 2 weeks, I think. Definitely less time than I was originally told. They unfortunately lost my battery but overnighted me a new one.

A month (let alone the 2+ they're telling you) is absolutely ridiculous.

GingerBlondecat · 31/07/2013 07:09

It took ours 3 weeks, but that is only because it needed to be in a Major City to be repaired, we live Rural Australia.

wonkylegs · 31/07/2013 07:13

My DHs Sony took a week but that included them picking it up and couriering it to France & back because that's where Sony fixes them.
My Apple powerbook took3 days in the apple store.

tripper20 · 31/07/2013 07:17

Mine kept overheating (filthy inside and clogged fan) and a local chap picked it up, took it away and brought it back cleaned and working quietly. Took 3 days and cost £75.

Faithless12 · 31/07/2013 08:16

My Sony took months to get fixed and they(JL) sent it a really weird shop to be fixed who couldn't find the fault for a month, then took their merry time fixing it. I could have fixed it faster but it was only a year old so had plenty of warranty left.

happycake · 31/07/2013 18:23

Thanks for the replies. Clearly 3 months is way longer than is reasonable to wait. I'm going to keep tweeting them until this gets resolved.

My life is really stressful right now and this is making it so much worse. I feel so fucking powerless.
