To ask about leisure resorts and your experiences/recommendations?

I know this should be in the travel section but for traffic and honest comments I'm posting here. Basically looking into holidays in Oct for me, DH and DS who will be 22 mo then. Possibly Portugal/Spain. We've always done self catering hols in villas/cottages etc but I'm wondering what 'leisure resorts' are like? Are they crap, noisy and over priced or are they a great place for hols with toddlers? Just thinking our usual self catering choices are pretty remote and DD might enjoy being in a bit more hustle and bustle. Not really interested in kids clubs, more just people around and facilities on site etc. Anyone thoughts? Recommendations? Or places to avoid? Thank you.

I'm not sure if this answers your question as I don't know if this is a leisure resort but we have just got back from here in Ibiza. It was our second visit and it was glorious. The resort was all inclusive and has 5 pools and two hotels set above a beautiful sandy beach. We have now stayed at both hotels and they are both great. There is entertainment at the poolside every afternoon and evening but it is easy to avoid if it is not your cup of tea. The food was plentiful and the hot meals were a choice of Mediterranean cuisine and a themed menu (Arabic, Chinese, Mexican etc) with pasta & sauce and chips offered too. There were delicious salads and cold meats available at every meal and a choice of fresh fruit, ice cream and cakes for pudding.

The rooms were a good size and serviced daily and the whole resort was lovely. It seemed to be popular with British, French and German tourists. The staff all seem to be multilingual but were polite and didn't laugh at my rudimentary Spanish.

I recommend Pirate Island where the two pools are only calf deep but the bucket at the top of the ship empties every two minutes or so - not for the faint hearted!

The resort is an hours drive from the airport which could be a bit boring for a little one.
