Ocado, how could you do this to me?!

My love affair with Ocado is seriously dented after this morning's delivery diaster.

First, they arrived 30 minutes late with no call or email. When the driver arrives, he dumps everything on my doorstep, shoves the receipt in my hand and literally runs back to the van.

After struggling to get it all into kitchen (huge vats of cat food, milk etc) with half of the bags breaking from being overpacked, I realise that they have put all of my freezer stuff (including a 2kg bag of ice) in with fresh. So my tomatoes, strawberries, broccoli, bread etc are all completely frozen. Those bags must have been pit in the van's freezer compartment as they are completely frozen solid and will defrost into a mush.

Phoned them and they have refunded a few bits, but the woman sounded like she didn't even really believe me. Got a weak apology and nothing else.

I thought Ocado could do no wrong, sob!

Oh, forgot an AIBU.

AIBU to think this is not up to their usual naice standards?

It sounds like the delivery driver was having a really shit day!

My deliveries have been up to their normal standards - haven't had to do a refund recently (and I always do this online) so I don't know if that is usual now.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2013 11:57

Ooh Ocado are having a bad day. There's another thread about flour today.....

bico · 26/07/2013 11:58

They should arrange to collect and redeliver. That is what they did with me when I had a disastrous delivery. I'm surprised they didn't suggest that.

Ponyofdoom · 26/07/2013 12:01

An Ocado van swept by my horse while I was riding today, without slowing down, so not in my good books either.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 26/07/2013 12:06

That is bad.

I have an on off love affair with Ocado. The packing is truly dreadful. I've lost track of the number of times ive had raspberries squashed in under pints of milk. It really annoys me as I actually think its do disrespectful. It's basically saying: here's hundreds of pounds of shopping but we can't be arsed packing it properly. We don't give a fuck if its all damaged.

Substitutions are not very well chosen either. Waitrose definitely do better with both these

However, I tend to use ocado more due to variety of stock. Every two months or so, they'll piss me off so much with the packing or by turning up and telling me there was no bread, whatsoever, in their whole massive warehouse, that I'll drop them for 6 months or so.

I am pregnant with an 8 mo th old and have to plead with the drivers to take shopping in. They are always clearly quite put out when they have to

However, I do think their customer service is very good in that I recently locked myself out of my car (with house keys inside ) I had a delivery arriving in an hour and was stuck 5 miles away. They were lovely, told me not to worry and delivered later. I felt very bad for the driver as it was a Friday and I'm sure the delay was the last thing he wanted

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 26/07/2013 12:08

I mean - I'm pregnant and have an 8 month old. Not pregnant with an 8 month old - that would obviously be very weird

SilverOldie · 26/07/2013 13:03

I tried Ocado once, never again. Their customer service is rubbish.

SuperiorCat · 26/07/2013 13:05

I find they are massively over helpful if you post a grumble on their facebook page as they don't like the bad publicity...

DinoSnores · 26/07/2013 13:10

Never had a problem. They deliver it straight into the kitchen for me. It has been late once or twice but they've phoned.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 26/07/2013 13:14

Fridays are traditionally a 'mare for Ocado. Packing isn't totally by humans, but I'm not sure how. The FB page is good once you get past the annoying few regulars who must live by their laptops waiting for a new post!

SoupDragon · 26/07/2013 13:29

If it had been delivered by Jesus in his Cabbage Van, he would have resurrected the strawberries from their mushy death.

SoupDragon · 26/07/2013 13:30

Was it delivered by Beelzebub in his Jalapeño van?

DidoTheDodo · 26/07/2013 13:35

Oh horror! I have just placed my first online order with them. AIBU to be worried?

coraltoes · 26/07/2013 13:37

claim for a refund on their website for all the damaged items. they do refunds.

I always get them to come Sat or Sun mornings. never had a disaster like that one. But they are crap at packing, especially eggs and yoghurts. Though as I complain every time an egg is broken I get a LOT of free eggs, as they leave the whole pack behind!

Partly they assume the deliver guys will use their trolleys and boexes when as we all know they CBA and just pick up the bags ten to each hand.

ChairmanMeoww · 26/07/2013 14:31

Jesus in his Cabbage Van does operate round these 'ends' but today no such luck. The driver was actually pretty hot...but I digress.

The woman on customer services said she couldn't really see the problem of all the fresh stuff being frozen which I thought was quite odd. She even said "can't you just put it in the freezer"...! And although they did refund a few bits it does mean having to rush to Tesco after work to replace the bits we need for the weekend.

Have only ever used Ocado for deliveries (tried Tesco once but found the website really counter-intuitive) but maybe time to try someone else.

I used to alternate between ocado and Tesco and gave up ocado in the end after too many bashed things - cereal packets, bread, fruit & veg etc. Whilst I liked their 1 hour delivery slots (listening, Tesco?) in the end the cons came down to:

? Rubbish packing
? Drivers harrassed and unhappy about bringing to kitchen (all of 20 feet from the door)
? The range being unhelpful really as I'd find myself ordering swan fillets and rump of unicorn and spending a fortune on things I didn't really need.

Tesco's site and app are nothing like as good but range more reliable (ours comes from a "dark store" depot) and drivers unfailingly pleasant.

MyChemicalMummy · 26/07/2013 14:45

Or you could make your own ice then you won't get frozen toms. Try it, it's easy
