To want to name my DS whatever I want?

K8DOC · 23/07/2013 10:33

DS was born yesterday and I'm resting up and about to go home later today. DH is being lovely and is now taking two weeks paternity leave.

The thing is, it feels as though we have to do what people say. I really love the name Tyler but everyone is saying no and are gunning for George.

I know people on here talk about controlling grandparents but it's the Great-Grandmother that's the problem here. As soon as DS was born, DH HAD to tell her first. I didn't even get to call my mother first.

Also everyone seems to want to know every detail of what's going on. I don't know if it was just the pregnancy hormones talking but I felt as though the whole world was watching me when I was PG. It's probably just me being paranoid.

So what do I do, do I stand by my name choices or go with what's traditional and do what GGM says?

Sorry kate. Mumsnet will be here for you, but your family set up is a little unusual and I suspect you can't do much about the domineering MIL.

Sending you and unmumsnetty hug and good luck with the breastfeeding.

Your baby, your rules. Don't let great grandma in without some cake and make sure she puts the Hoover round before you let her have a cuddle.

FruOla · 23/07/2013 10:40

YANBU. I think King Tyler has a great ring to it and completely in line with the modern family Crown

Beastofburden · 23/07/2013 10:41

lol

K8DOC · 23/07/2013 10:41

I mean don't get me wrong GGM is lovely but is kind of used to her own way.

There is no MIL, she passed away a while ago, something DH has never really got over. However, his SMIL has always been nice to me.

This has already been done today. yawn

Just close your ears to all except your dh and baby, for the time being.
Go home and lock the door and turn off the phone, then discuss this with your husband.

Of course you may name your son what you like.

I think YABU

Kayne or Klay would be way better choices

ThePrinceofCambridge · 23/07/2013 10:42

Follow your own heart love, at the end of the day its you who will have to live with the name your whole life, the oldies had their chances, this is your time now.

What about Spenny too, like made in chelsea spenny, and also of course ref to dads mum....and your old stomping ground.

Go to the "relationship" boards, you will get lots of support there.

Good luck darlin, enjoy your moment and dont let them push you round.

Where was you baby conceived? Maybe name him after there? Was it Anglesey? That has a nice ring - Anglesey Tyler. Grin

pictish · 23/07/2013 10:49

Seriously - I no royalist by any stretch of the imagination...but on a human level I don't envy Kate right now.

K8DOC · 23/07/2013 10:49

Don't you worry - just concentrate on getting your hair and make up done so you look good for the cameras when you leave.

Oh God, I look like a mess right now. It's going to take me forever to look good! Shock
