To think bridal shops need to stock other sizes!

Just that really. Because im not a size 8-10 the amount ofdresses in the store I can try on is very limited. One store even commented about me loosing weight for the day ...er..I actually like my curves you cheeky cow. Aibu to think stocking regular size 14+ would be fair too?!

Losing weight. Not loosing. Are there not suppliers who specialise in wedding dresses for curvier ladies?

I think most have samples in a 12-16 as they are the most popular bridal sizes I guess. Most brides lose weight before the wedding so if she suggested you diet,she was rude but if she said a lot of brides diet,she's right.
I was v excited to plan my wedding but felt quite upset & anxious that I wouldn't be able to try on normal dresses. I did find specialist stockists for 16+ but found it to depressing to visit (really,no offence to anyone intended).
I found my dress in a bridal dept of a store in Oxford street. The sample was a 14,I'm a 20-22 & she just pinned it at the back to give me a good idea of how it'd look.
I guess they would only have samples in one size so it'd need to be an average one.

Is it a very small shop? All the ones i went to stocked from 10-18. I had to leave open in some cases and have back boobs in others. Didn't they ask your size when booking an appointment? I thought that was pretty standard?

I got my dress from a company called daisy love, it's near Windsor. It was brilliant, it only sells size 16+ dresses so has loads to try on! Plus the staff are used to dealing with curvy girls so you feel much more comfortable. They have a sister shop across the road which has the normal skinny people sizes and lots of bridesmaids dresses. I was really dreading the whole thing but they made it a lovely experience and I was really pleased with my dress. Do find a good shop near you and don't out up with the rubbish service at these others shops. Good luck!

I found most bridal shops had samples in 12-14 in most styles. There weren't actually many size 10s.

Eh? I'm a 10ish & every shop I went to only had 12-14 samples. They did a weird trick of sticking towels down the back of the dress to show what the front would look like when it got taken in.

im a high street size 14-16, very hourglass . Im not skinny but I don't feel that I warrant searching out 'pkus size' boutiques iyswim..but maybe I am being over sensitive. Having been dress shopping prebaby ans an actual size ten this shopping experience is vastly different and am finding it difficult!

Lots of shops I went to have 16-18 sample sizes so its not great if you are an 8-10 either as its difficult to get an idea of how something will look when its 5 sizes too big and pinned!

I mean this kindly but are you as happy as you suggest in your OP suggests with your curves? Is there something you could do to help you feel more body confident?

I found the dress I loved and it was in the shop window, in the Sale! I was over the moon. Went in to try it on and the girl said that it was size 16 that had been taken in for the window display and if I bought it they would alter it free of charge 8 weeks before my wedding day. I bought it, went back and...the shop had gone! I went to a dressmaker who told me that it was a size 12, it had always been a size 12 and would always be a size 12 ! That was some impressive crash diet 2 stone in 6 weeks), but I felt like a million dollars when I got into the dress , sadly I put the weight back on afterwards but my wedding pictures are great!

We went shopping for DD2's wedding dress, being a perfect size 10 everything she tried on was almost a perfect fit. Bridesmaid dress for DD1 a size14/16 was a different experience ! It's not just a case of holding the back so the front looks good . How can a 36/38 bust fit in the front of a dress designed for a 34 it alters the whole way the dress falls . Normally you buy because you feel good and think you look good , not really possible in a dress 3 or 4 sizes too small . P. S. when did a size 14/16 become outsize !!!!

Trying on wedding dresses was a hideous experience. I only did it because my MIL thought I should. DH is the first of her children to get married. So we tramped round her nearest city on the hottest day of the year and went into every bridal shop.

I was (and still am) a size 18/20. All the sample dresses I tried on were 12/14. So they were pinned to my underwear, ruining my favourite bra in the process.

As I had already decided I was going to make my own dress and only needed to buy the fabric the whole day was a demoralising waste of time.

Actually, not totally demoralising. I became more and more determined not to give in to pressure and to stick with Plan A.

I'm an 8 to 10 and all the dresses in the bridal shops when I was searching had size 16. They all looked ridiculous on me.
I ended up getting it made.

Goodness, do bridal shops still do this? I had an awful time in one shop when I was dress shopping (was a busty 12) but it was 15 years ago! I thought they would have got their act together by now!

I guess they can't please everyone..but have so far found it a totak PITA!

I am someone who chooses to feel good about myself, I am slowly dropping a few lbs as I'd prefer to be a 12 perhaps, but im very hourglass, big boobs and childbearing hips and my h2b is crazy for my curves so honestly, while im intending to loose a little im certainly not dieting like mad or stressing over it.. As long as my dress flatters and suits and I feel amazing in it.mi couldn't care less what actual size it is....but my point is that so far, I haven't even managed to get some dresses past my thighs because its a size 8/10/12 .....!

I'm an 8 and I didn't see a single size 8 in any of the shops I visited. They would hoike them in at the back so you could get an idea, only you couldn't. I went to a dressmaker in the end.

I bought my dress recently and most of the samples were a size 12, which I think is a realistic size to offer. Many High St shops don't go above a 16 anyhow so I'm not sure why a mainstream bridal retailer would.

Most of the dressees were too small for me (I'm a 14), but to be honest that's my problem!

Another smaller bride drowning in samples. Trying to visualise the look of the dress without a pre-fab bust on it takes a strong imagination. I only tried on one size 10, and co-incidentally it was the one I went for. I'd probably have gone for it anyway, but it probably helped that it was the right proportions for my body.

When one size 18 sample was unpinned, it fell off.

Whatever size a sample is, it's going to be wrong for +80% of women.

I bought my dress in a very large Bridal Wear shop and they had dresses in every size. I am a 12-14 and didn't lose weight for my wedding as I have battled with my weight my whole life and was happy with my weight. If you are happy with your weight.. ignore that silly woman and shop elsewhere.

It is more the shape of the dress that matters I think. With an hour glass figure, a ballgown shape might be best and you can get the netting removed if there is too much volume for you.
