AIBU?

that my friends wouldn't shut up about being "cold" all weekend?

So we had a BBQ this weekend and had a couple of friends staying over. It's true, the weather wasn't as blazing hot as it was last week, but it was by no means cold (slightly overcast on Saturday, but still hitting around 25/26 degrees). Friends had only brought mini skirts and no cardigans or jackets. The weather was exactly as forecast btw, so not unexpected. Oh, and I offered to lend them jumpers/coats/jackets/blankets but was turned down.

Instead, friends spent all weekend complaining how cold and rubbish it is in the North of England, and how freezing and cold they were. This is despite the rest of the guests at the BBQ saying it was nice not to be in the strong sun all day for once, especially as there were a lot of younger children there they wanted to keep out of the sun.

AIBU to think that if you're naturally cold-blooded you should check the forecast and bring a jumper, and also it's rude to complain about the host's town/county and say it's rubbish all the time just because it's a couple of degrees colder than it is further south? Sad

I'd have got my best broad-yorkshire accent out and remarked 'theres no bad weather - only bad clothes' Grin

But then I do seem to be turning into my Gran these days.

Did you have a chunter about 'southern fairies'? I do hope you did.

I did have a chunter, in a lighthearted way, but they didn't get the hint. Grin

You should have said "Haud yer wheesht Ye Big Jessies"

Then mocked their feeble weakness... Grin

And shown them the train times home.

It sounds like you had the same weather as we did on Saturday and it wasn't cold by any stretch of the imagination.

Considering you also offered to lend them coats/jumpers etc they were being very rude.

YANBU

I thought it was "just right" to be honest, warm but without the headache-inducing sunshine. I was in a light cotton dress and was perfect all day. And loads of other people were fine too.

It was pretty cold in London on Saturday night too, to be honest.

So rude! Mind you we have quite a few friends and family down south and they're always freezing whenever they come up, even if we think its quite hot. There can't be that much of a difference in temp is there?

YANBU. I am always cold and so always have a cardigan with me. Plus, complaining about the area is just silly. Unless they are arguing that it is always above 25 degrees where they live?

Did you offer to lend them your muff?

I was at two BBQs this weekend (Newcastle), and while it was overcast, it was still warm. We were all put in vests and long skirts/linen trews. Your friend is a wuss.

I thought it was cold on Saturday! I'd gone to an event with friends, many of them only had on shorts and t-shirts. They were freezing! I had leggings and a jumper with me to layer up and even then I wasn't super warm.

So glad you all agree! Next time we're down south we'll complain about the price of things, how hot it is and the lack of Henderson's Relish all the time Wink

Make sure you complain about the endless bloody culture too. I could never live in London because of all the art galleries and the operas I'd have to go to. At least in t'frozen North we don't have any of that nonsense which is good because we're busy indoors insulating our houses with tinfoil and eggboxes.

YANBU. I'm a northerner who was at a friends BBQ in the south east on Saturday night and it did get very chilly later on and drizzled a bit. I wouldn't dream of making my hosts feel bad by allowing them to think I was uncomfortable. I just made sure I brought a cardigan and accepted the offer of a blanket when the sun went down. (And made sure I swiped a few egg boxes as I left to insulate my own freezing house.)

These friends are roood.

Two weeks of sunshine and suddenly we've all been declimatised to cooler weather.

You should have told them to man/woman/child up.
