to wash my DP's hoodie?

My DP has had a hoodie for about 2 years now, he wears it pretty much every day - but he has never washed it! It's a limited edition Assassin's Creed hoodie so it will be hard to replace if damaged. I have managed to get hold of it for a week... should I wash it? He has said that I can if I really want to... and I do really want to, it smells funny... how should I wash it?

has it not got a washing label in it telling you what to wash it at? If not, you could fasten it, turn it inside out and wash it on a delicates wash at 30 degrees.

FeckOffCup · 21/07/2013 17:05

I'd sling it in with everything else at 40 degrees, have not yet managed to cause any damage to a hoody by doing this.

MrsKeithRichards · 21/07/2013 17:52

Every day for 2 years?

To work, pub, walks... everything? Yuk!

Suddengeekgirl · 21/07/2013 17:56

If its been worn daily for 2 years without washing then it may disintegrate in the washer! Dirt might be holding it together! Shock

Bung it in at 30, a normal hoody would be fine with that.

Yuck yuck yuck

Branleuse · 21/07/2013 17:57

wash it on a wool/delicates wash

Binkyridesagain · 21/07/2013 17:59

Yuck what's the rest of his hygiene standards like?

MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavour · 21/07/2013 18:04

I wouldn't wash it, if something happens to it then he's bound to blame you

I'd tell him to wash it because he stinks Grin

xalyssx · 21/07/2013 18:04

The label says 40 degrees so I have put it in the machine on the wool cycle... ooh er
DP is clean, showers every day, washes his hair 3 to 4 times a week etc
Yeah he wears it to work, whenever he goes out, around the house, sometimes my DS sleeps wrapped up in it... yuck

Eeeeewwwww, just eeeeewwww! How can you NOT wash it?
Get it in the machine on a 30 degree delicate (with half a ton of bio washing powder -it'll need it) and it'll be fine.

Disclaimer - I am a washing freak and nothing in this house gets worn by anyone, ever, for more than a day. I cannot bear dirty clothes. I'll wrench stuff from DH if I have to. My teen DDs are luckily more than compliant Grin I do tend to look at other people's clothes and notice if they are dirty. Blush

Before I sound too preachy, my house is pretty messy. Wink

But 2 years - 2 years!! I'm just going for a lie down

sparkle12mar08 · 21/07/2013 18:29

Two years? I'm sorry but that's just slovenly in the extreme. How can you stand to touch it? It must stink to high heaven. I'd have had it off his back after two weeks, let alone two years. Poor personal hygiene includes clothes you know.

hm32 · 21/07/2013 18:52

Hand wash?

JollyHolidayGiant · 21/07/2013 18:55

Please report back!

xalyssx · 21/07/2013 19:07

It survived! Still very pilly though Hmm

musicposy · 21/07/2013 19:29

Wash it every 2 days from now on, that'll sort it out Wink

DoJo · 21/07/2013 19:50

I suppose if he's been wearing it more like a coat than a jumper then it's not quite as gross, but I don't see why washing it normally should be a problem. Is it fear of it getting damaged that has stopped him from washing it? Or is he just a bit skanky generally? Wink

LessMissAbs · 21/07/2013 19:59

I don't feel so bad now. I bought DH a Tesco hoodie 2 1/2 weeks ago and he was worn it every day since without washing it.

I shall not be washing it for him.
