To think a loud party going on until 5:30am is wrong?

A house 2 streets away was having a party (wedding). My uncle lives next door to them and he was invited. They had a bouncy castle outside their back gate on public land (used to be a play area but the equipment got pulled down a few years ago). There were hundreds of people.

Extremely loud music to the point of being able to hear every word in our house, we had to shut all windows.

This went on from 2pm until 5:30am!!! There are three huge blocks of flats right behind there house each 12 floors high, 4 flats each floor so that's 144 flats, plus at least 75 other houses surrounding them.

The following morning, DP went to work and discovered his car, which is parked on his uncles drive (so right next door to the party), was covered all one side in some sort of purple sticky substance (presumably a drink) which must have been done deliberately. It was covered.

So not only did they keep the whole neighbourhood awake, they deliberately caused damage to a car.

Why do people in AIBU miss the whole point in the thread and just pick on the OP for a choice of word?

Not being invited to the parties that go on until 5:30 is wrong.

It's summer, it's one night, it's probably a lot of great memories for a lot of people.

Just let it go, they had fun, nobody died, a car got sticky.

Have a little party yourself, sounds like you could do with some giggles.

Were there actually any complaints from peoe who might have been affected by the noise?

As a one off, if I lived there, it would be annoying but I'd presume it was a big celebration. Weekly I would act on but you make it sound like a one off.

I would have been really annoyed and upset too OP. Nothing wrong with having a party until 5.30am it's just thoughtless and selfish to have a party going on that long near people who are trying to sleep.

YANBU - there are people who need to get some sleep and rise early for work. Midnight is plenty late enough for parties that disturb the neighbourhood - 1am tops. If people want to carry on socialising after that, turn off the music, go indoors and talk - don't inflict it on the whole neighbourhood. And leave as quietly as possible - say goodbye indoors. Basic civilized behaviour.

Deliberately fouling someone else's property is unacceptable too. Presumably your DP will have to spend time and/or money getting it cleaned and its nasty to use meanwhile.

WTF? I'm an easy going type of person but I would be really pissed off at that! My neighbour did this once, I made damn certain that the DC's were up and playing out bright and early the next morning. The party had been over for about an hour at that point...
And being precious about unknown substances poured over a car? Really, so it wouldn't bother you then?

'Damage'. But maybe you didn't mean it sarkily - some substances actually can cause permanent damage to paintwork, perhaps you were asking if that was the case.

You can celebrate a wedding without vandalising a car or disturbing an entire neighbourhood all bloody night. YADNBU.

Depends what kind of car it was.

We have this delight to look forward to this weekend...each year a house that backs on to our garden has a birthday party that starts at 2.30pm on Saturday and finishes at 5.30 am Sunday, with the loud music, shouting, screaming etc..I have to be at work at 8 Sunday morning! Each year all the neighbours are ringing the police and environmental health. It is inconsiderate and selfish to do this...nobody wants to be a killjoy but midnight is plenty then turn the music off and take it indoors or hire a venue.
I did suggest we all get out at 6am and start to cut the grass just as they go to bed though, as we may as well get up as we have been kept awake all bloody night!
