To give up now and agree to induction!

I think I need some positive thinking or a reality check!

With DD i planned a homebirth , however after four sweeps, the first three resulting in nothing I ended up being induced by having my waters broken as I wasn't progressing. Waters were clear but then dd got distressed and ended up in a drip. Confused. I ended up on my back tied to a machine to monitor dd.

Cue DC2- now I'm 11 days over and planned home birth. I've had 3 sweeps. I had one yesterday and it did something with regular contractions but these have now fizzled out. Midwife said she could have broken my waters. By this one I was 3 cm and bishops score has gone from 6 to 8.

The plan is for another sweep Friday and go in the weekend to have my waters broken.

Aibu to just give up gracefully on a homebirth and accept nothing will happen until my waters are broken!?Blush and to just suggest they do this today/Friday!?Hmm

well, I was induced and my waters didn't break until I was ten centimetres..maybe your babies just like it in there a bit longer than most.

some countries country full term as 43 weeks. just saying. If baby is not in distress, I don't see why intervention is needed.

I went 12 days over and was taken into be induced and only then did they work out I was in labour, so it does happen naturally!

It's a long time between now and the weekend OP. Babies come when they are ready. Good Luck - you never know you might get one of those special coins Wink.

And you don't stink - the name doesn't suit you.

Dd was 14 days over and came after the fifth sweep. There is still time, and you don't have to be induced. I negotiated an extra 3 days before agreeing to go to hospital and losing my home birth. Thankfully she came in the nick of time.

Personally, I would let nature take its course unless there are any indications of distress. From the sound of it, you have late babies, some people do. In my family it is a miracle if a baby is born less than a week after the due date, even my fourth was 11 days late. Remember, even dating scans can be out by about a week so, you may not be over by as much as they think. If you really want the home birth, then hold out. I have a habit of going into labour the night before I'm booked for a C-section due to being overdue (I can't be induced) - I think the threat of medical intervention finally makes the DCs want to come out!

I waited 14 days over and then baby came.I refused to be induced as there was nothing wrong with my baby and did my research and argued my case!i wanted nature to take its course and it did.

I'm another waiter here with ds2 - induction planned for 13 days over had him the day before I was due to be induced. Waters didn't go until I was 10cm and pushing.

I do understand though when you get so overdue its just very frustrating and you want it all over with. Hope labour starts for you soon.

I went 14 days over in summer heat similar to this - very frustrating!

What bothered me is when I was a week over they said "we're booking you in for your induction" a week from now just in case" in a way that didn't make it sound optional. If I hadn't spoken up and said "do I have to be induced at 14 days over can't they just check baby's OK?" they wouldn't have told me otherwise...

Started labour naturally the night before I was due to be "induced" (supposedly) after a Clary sage bath and a play on the tyre swings at the park that evening :)

I knew she was on her way I could feel things happening gradually and didn't see any need to go rushing after I'd waited that long.

The constant texts from people got on my tits though. "where's this baby" "hurry up!" etc... Ffs I was doing my best lol!

I also had a feeling the dates weren't quite right anyway and when she came out they remarked that she didn't actually look like a baby that had been baked for too long.

Pianodoodle- yes the text are really getting to me now- in fact I am going to switch my phone off!

Haven't tried sex for a few days! I was asleep when DH came to bed last night and didn't have the heart to wake him at 4 as Dd was at my mums for the night and he has been dealing with the night waking so thought he deserved a decent nights sleep!

Right off for a walk before it gets too hot!

I HB'd with my 3rd and my waters didn't go till I was 7cm. I sympathise, bring pregnant in the heat is NOT FUN! I can also recommend sex btw, can you get DH to come home on his dinner break? Grin
Record an answerphone message that just says 'not yet' and ignore the phone as well!
Unless there is eveidencemof anything wrong wait it out, anything could happen between now and the weekend..

all 3 of mine were born at exactly 43 weeks - not overcooked, not in distress just that's how long I carry mine for. you do not have to be induced it is your choice. if you don't go into labour by day 14 then just see them every day and wait until it happens. although you may not feel like it what about trying the 3 hot b's - balti, bonk and bath? my (elderly) midwife swore by it. as for the phone switch it off or send out a jokey message to all your mates saying "look no one is more fed up at waiting than me so why not just wait with me/send me a joke/meet up for a coffee etc" by my third DC my mates all added on a couple of weeks to my due date. good luck - hope it all goes well.

I went into labour with DD1 at 40+14 and she born at 40+16. No sweeps, no intervention whatsoever!
DD2 was born at 40+12 still in her water sac.
You ask them to scan and check baby is happy and safe.

After a sweep yesterday I got more 'contractions' most of yesterday and last night but this had tailed off now.

I am booked to go in on Sunday so have managed to buy two days!

Nipple stimulation worked for me! Did it myself rather than DH helping Blush

i went 15 days over with DC2 (was induced with DC1and wanted to avoid induction).

11 is not that late yet. I was offered a scan at term+12 to check placenta etc and had to go in for dailly for 1h of cct monitoring. in the end i went into labour at term +15.

can u ask them for a scan and monitoring to make sure baby is fine insude a couple if days longer ?

I think due dates should be scrapped, i think they are remarkably unhelpful. I would replace them with an estimated delivery window of a week

Oooh sounds like you're nearly ready to go! I had those wee contractions on and off for about a week - that's why I was happy enough that something was happening :)

Agree with OhDearNigel about due dates. I had my 12 week scan and they have decided I'm 8 days more pregnant that I had worked out. Can't get my head round the maths of that but maybe I'm just being thick!

I had never heard of 'expectant monitoring' until I found MN and was PG with DC4. It was met with much rolling of eyes and excuses from the hospital AN department.

Am glad I stuck to my guns though. I had the easiest HB, outstanding MW care and a very calm, serene baby (she was born in the bag - my waters didn't go). I am crossing my fingers that it will be the same for you (except the 'in the bag bit'. that was just a bit odd).

Hi there,

Am in pretty much the same boat as you Peppapigstinks, planning a home birth with my 2nd child and am now at 10 days overdue. I was 2 weeks early with DC1 so feel like I've been overdue 3-4 weeks already!

Didn't know about "expectant monitoring" 1st time round, but think this is is the way forward for me if I can stick out the wait! Research saying that no need to be induced unless deemed medically necessary...just depends on how long I can cope with the wait and pestering from well meaning people!

Also, bear I'm mind the due date could be a bit out...I know of a lady who went 19 days over her due date and still managed to have a home birth so it is possible!

I want a documented labour thread pippa - grunts, swearing, screaming, everything - esp the bit where you yell at your DH to F off and stop being Effing helpful Grin. Out baby, ouit baby, come on now, stop teasing.
