Comments From Contract Gardeners in Development where I Live

So I am off work today, I live in a new, very quiet development which is managed and has a team of landscape gardeners in today. I went to my car, and 4 or 5 of them started shouting at me, sexual type remarks. Middle of the day, I was wearing trainers and running gear. Made me feel awful. This is my home!

Complain, complain, complain.

What they did is actually illegal.

HazelnutinCaramel · 17/07/2013 12:22

You should have mooned them!

Complain, they're not allowed to do that.

SalaciousBCrumb · 17/07/2013 12:26

I'm in a similar development. You must have managing agents - phone them now and get them to complain, also complain directly to the company.

PurpleRayne · 17/07/2013 12:27

Complain. Now.

Shrugged · 17/07/2013 12:32

Maddening. Absolutely, complain now. No company wants their name brought into disrepute by their employees behaving like cavemen.

My daughter was walking home from school last week and a roofing firm started shouting at her. She is 12 ffs! Anyhow I called 101 and reported them and they took it seriously. Got a community officer to go and have a word. It is neither acceptable or legal anymore to shout like that.
The company involved tried to defend themselves that they were shouting at older teenagers behind my daughter but were swiftly told that was no defence!! Complain complain complain!
Oh and my husband is an electrician, if he shouted like that on site he would get a red card and be name from the site.

JudgeJodie · 17/07/2013 12:34

Banned from the site

LessMissAbs · 17/07/2013 12:38

Couldn't get through to the managing company in person, left a message. I would actually like to phone the police but don't want to get embroiled/not sure if they will take it seriously.

They were pretty bad comments. Along the lines of "I'd like to do her/shes giving me a hard on".

I honestly think there is something wrong with the part of the country I live in. It is definitely worse here than where I have my main home (I work here during the week).

Would have taken them to task myself but am worried about my car being targeted when I leave it.

Call the non-emergency number 101. Or if you know the contractors' company, call their head office. Bloody disgrace.

SueDoku · 17/07/2013 13:10

Report to 101 - mention about your car as well so that they are aware of the situation.

BlueStones · 17/07/2013 13:28

Good to know this is illegal - I actually hadn't realised. One summer contractors on my neighbours house (a gang of at least 10) used to make incredibly graphic sexual comments to me every time I left the house. Eventually I told them that they were making me really unhappy - they seemed genuinely surprised, and two of them even apologised.

Having said that, if I'd know it was an offence I would have reported it. Glad you did.

katydid02 · 17/07/2013 13:30

YANBU - not at all. They are being VVVU.

Talkinpeace · 17/07/2013 13:31

go and take a picture of them and their van
then send it to the police
get them sacked
indefensible
