To wear a bikini top and shorts

In my own garden?

Ok, it is a front garden but I live in a back to back house and only have a front garden. It is fairly large, think adequate back garden, enough space for table and chairs/BBQ, washing line and plenty of grass for ds 7 to have a kick about. It's surrounded by a chest hight hedge but still over looked by all the niebourghs. I wore a bikini top and shorts to hang out my washing earlier, any excuse to top up the tan and got a few funny looks by some people on their way out/home.

AIBU to think this is my garden I can wear what I like! If you don't like it don't look!??

Fuck 'em. Your garden, wear what you like.

quoteunquote · 13/07/2013 15:03

Why would it be unreasonable?

Unless you pinched them off your neighbour's washing line.

Ledkr · 13/07/2013 15:03

I'm in my garden in my pants!
We came in just now and were so hot we just stripped off.
Kids are in pool.

prettybird · 13/07/2013 15:04

YANBU.

Your garden, your choice.

You'd even be reasonable if you were wearing bikini bottoms rather than shorts.

edwardsmum11 · 13/07/2013 15:07

Yanbu, perfectly legal

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/07/2013 15:07

Are you sure you're not imagining the funny looks?
It's hot, everybody is in some state of undress in their gardens.
Maybe it's just you feeling a bit self consious as you're not used to it.
Nobody cares Op. really.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 13/07/2013 15:09

Can't begin to imagine why this would be unreasonable. Unless your name is Brian and you're 6'4" and even then that wouldn't be all that shocking in some quarters. Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 13/07/2013 15:11

Those aren't funny looks

You've just got great norks Grin

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 15:12

Children playing in the pool , I am wondering around the house and garden in a bikini. No one cares.

WorraLiberty · 13/07/2013 15:15

Oh come on of course it's not unreasonable

And unless you had your knickers on your head, I can't imagine you getting funny looks.

LadyMilfordHaven · 13/07/2013 15:15

oh ffs

is this really an issue?

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 13/07/2013 15:19

Im in my back garden just got out of the pool. Its a large paddling pool but still a kids one. But its been so hot it was lovely. Im now sat at the garden table in just my bikini. Im not even slim (size 14) but I don't care.

FrenchRuby · 13/07/2013 15:21

I wore a bikini to the beach the other day (I have a deflated balloon stretch marked belly) it's too hot to care what other people think.

Ujjayi · 13/07/2013 15:44

No problem in your garden. Wouldn't recommend a crochet kaftan & bikini combo for the school fete though, as sported by one mum at DC2's school......ShockGrin

Could the funny looks be because you've got a washing line in your front garden or is it common where you live?

I'd assume they were admiring glances, not funny looks. Works for me. Wink
