So my stupid dp decided to get rid of some ice in the freezer that was stopping the drawer from opening.

Next thing I hear.."oh shit"

He's done it with a sodding knife and now there is a hissing noise, he has turned it off and opened kitchen door/window and it has now stopped hissing.

Aibu in not knowing what to do now?! Are we OK to stay here tonight or not?!

I swear I could kill him right now.

I suspect that the refrigerant will have all leaked out within a minute of puncturing the freezer wall, but it isn't dangerous anyway (unless inhaled directly).

If it's a fridge/freezer then the fridge is probably broken too, and it's probably not worth the cost of a repair.

Keep the window open.

Keep the freezer closed to keep contents as cold as possible.

Get some sllep.

Check insurance in the mrning.

Spend tomorrow salvaging as much food as possible.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, luckily we have a freezer in the shed at the garden so we can salvage some food.

Probably a new fridge freezer needed.

Seething right now have a poorly dd who is still awake and uncomfortable.

I found a link to some advice about refrigerant leaks: HPA

I think you'd need to know what the refrigerant is to know what the hazards are. If it's reasonably new, I believe it's safer than an old one.

It's an old one bugger. It's outside now..
