To take 2 week old DD to a normal cinema screening?

I want to take DD1 (2.9 years) to monsters inc this weekend.. She's been to the cinema a couple of times, loves monsters inc and will be fine. She asks me whenever the trailer comes on if we can go..

I had DD2 2 weeks ago, she's mostly good except when she wants her bottle she screams until its in her mouth and then has quite a loud snuffle around and conks out again afterwards.

I have no babysitter for her...

Can I take her with DD1 and I to a normal cinema screening? I specially want to make DD1 happy as life has turned upside down with a new baby taking up all my time...

WIBU to do this?

Do they not do a kids screening of it (lighter and quieter)? If not, go for it anyways as long as you are happy to leave with the two of them.if need be.

Alternitively, it might be nice for you and dd1 to have a little alone time if anyone can mind the newborn for a cpuple of hours?

I am surprised you want to go. Sitting in an uncomfortable cinema seat, dealing with a toddler and trying to care for a 2 week old baby, si the least thing I would want to do just two weeks after giving birth.

Give yourself a break and make some microwave popcorn and a fun DVD for her at home.

Oh and congratulations and the birth.

Yes I would. I took dd to see the Tweenies show when ds was about 3 wks. He just slept on my lap.

Probably easier to take a 2wk old than an older baby who will be louderGrin
But what if your DD1 wants to sit on your knee and have a cuddle? Or if you have to change a very smelly nappy right in the middle of the film?

I took mine at that age, they were bfed and just fed/slept the whole time.

Go to a daytimne/kids screening.

Some cinemas have special parent and baby showings now for babes in arms,etc.

I'd probably take a breastfed baby as you can just plug a boob in before any screaming starts - but is it going to be a faff trying to get the bottle sorted and feed the baby and deal with your toddler?

I took 2.11 year old DS to Despicable Me really and I needed to be quite on top of keeping him still-ish and quiet-ish, opening drinks, he wanted to get up and down from my lap and out to the loo etc.

I took my baby to a normal screening so his big brothers didn't miss out. He was maybe about 7 months old and we'd been at quite a few bring your own baby showings so I was confident he'd sleep after a feed. Would your daughter be devastated if you had to leave if the baby was upset? If not, I'd say give it a go.

Depends how placid your dc2 is. How would you handle it if dd2 had a screaming fit? How would dd1 respond if you had to leave half way through the film?

Yanbu I done it loads with ds2 when he was under 6m and can promise you he did not make a sound

In early for a play during the adverts then feed and sleep in the sling all the way through. Muslin against the ear that wasn't against my chest.

Only difference was my ds 1 was 6 and aware that I might have to pop out with his brother but turns out I didn't have to. I guess you'd baby to take your older one out with you.

But lots of cat bum faces will be along to say its awful and selfish and your baby will ruin it for everyone.

When I sat through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 I was pregnant and due about 3 days later and a few times through the film I thought I heard a baby. Couldn't see anything and it didn't bother me - thought I was just going a little bonkers because of my pregnancy.

Right at the end a lady a couple of rows behind me got up and I saw her little newborn all snuggled asleep on her. She smiled at me (due to being pregnant) and I told her I thought I was hearing things when I heard a baby. She'd told me she'd fed him during the screening too and no one had really noticed.

Go for it - it'll be full of kids anyway, so it isn't as if you'll "disturb" them. The Odean do have kids showings, our local one is on a Thursday morning.

It's a kids film, there's going to be loads of kids making noise anyway. My kids are a right PITA when we go to the cinema. "Mummy, I need the toilet," go to the toilet, 5 minutes later, "Mummy I need the toilet again". Hmm Your 2 week old will probably make loads less noise than the other kids.

I can't wait to see Monsters' University, we're taking the kids in 2 weeks on my birthday. I think I'm more excited than them. Blush Grin

Why don't you take them when the films been out for a while and its a bit cheaper. Its rotten when you have saved up to see a film its not cheap then someone spoils it for you.

I can warm the bottle just before I go in and have it ready to go... I suppose the only thing I didn't think about that's been raised is if I have to leave, DD1 will probably get upset. She's been really good in the cinema the couple of times we've been. I just sit her with a packet of cheddars and her drink and aside from occasionally pointing things on the screen out to me (excitedly!) she was great. But during Madagascar 3 I had to go to the toilet and she really didn't want to go...

The baby isn't a problem,I've been taking my 16 week old every week since 6weeks,sits feeds & sleeps,never makes a sound.
Only problem would be needing to nappy change in the middle &taking everyone out.
My worries would be about the older one being able to sit still through a whole film.At that age,mine wouldn't .

I went to The Great Gatsby with DD when she was about a week and a half. Cinema half empty and anyway she slept through first half in sling and I fed her in second half. If you look at the Vue website it specifically says babies in arms are allowed. I'd go if I were you.

I'd worry about the noise tbh. Young babies have very sensitive hearing.

I wouldn't because she might well pick up a bug, and a caring for a toddler plus a sick baby would just about kill me!
