Handed notice in 2 weeks ago, sales job, but boss expecting me to work my notice. Have never liked the job (hence quitting), there's no air in this room, and am spending my time here:
-job hunting
-investigating new business idea
-looking at stuff on the internet
-melting

YANBU - I rarely do any work when I am at work!

iloveweetos · 09/07/2013 14:42

haha take advantage of the paid job hunting!!!
I have to force myself to work and allocate time to job hunt lol Blush

YANBU. Can you have another chat with boss to see if you can negotiate reduced notice. I.e you finish your contract early. This way he doesn't have to pay you for doing nothing. If you are expecting payment for the full month your boss has every right to ask you to turn up.

Feel a teensy bit miffed I've not been put on gardening leave - almost every company I've worked at before, whenever a salesperson has left, they've had a month gardening leave.

YANBu...that's why I'm on MN!

mojoawol · 09/07/2013 14:54

I would love to know how many people on mn right now are actually at work pretending to, you know, work

Well I am on my break

BackforGood · 09/07/2013 14:55

Well, going against the grain here - IMVHO, if you are being paid to work then you should be working. It's not that odd, surely ?

greeneyed · 09/07/2013 15:01

I have always refused garden leave and said either we agree to finish contract early i.e you finish today, I stop paying you today or you work your notice. Sales profession, fortunately everyone has taken option 1. Yes I'm supposed to be working right now! :)

YABU - you're at work; you should be working...

But then, IABU - I'm at work; I should be working...

I think a lot of us are BU, which doesn't make it ok, but as long as we realise that we're BU then it's a bit less bad, right?

HerRoyalNotness · 09/07/2013 15:32

Me! I have a month left (I presume as I've not had my notice), I've been extended, and extended, I should have left end December, then January, then April, and I'm still here! (on a project), I do about 10mins work per day. I even suggested it in an email to my manager, I'd rather be enjoying the summer with my boys! But I will not quit, oh no.

Actually, I will pull the rug at 31 July, even if they dont want me to leave, it is dull and dangerous from an internet shopping point of view!

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 09/07/2013 15:41

I'm at work, not on my notice period, I should be working...

the only excuse I have is that the reason I found MN is because my boss told me to look up something on it. Not sure he meant me to KEEP looking though...

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2013 15:44

I'm at work but only pretending to work doing the minimum. I get up from the desk every now & then & try to look as if I'm doing something useful.

In my defence, it's a very quiet time of year for us & the boss is away on holiday, so we are just turning up & doing bits & pieces. From September until Christmas it will be all go, & we will be so busy we'll hardly have time to go to the loo let alone MN. So I'm enjoying the peace & quiet while I can.

Can't wait to get out of here, it's so darned hot.
