I have bought a bag made by Afghan refugees as a means of income as a birthday present for mil.

Dp says I shouldn't give it to her as she turns her nose up at people based on clothes etc and would basically vomit like the old lady on little Britain if she knew where it had come from

He must be wrong! Shall I give it to her anyway? It's gorgeous Hmm

All the more reason to give it to her, I would think.

Twunk · 08/07/2013 13:29

Seems a shame to waste it on her Wink

pianodoodle · 08/07/2013 13:30

Give it to her and tell her where it came from.

Then check her expressions and you'll find out if she really is or not :)

LimitedEditionLady · 08/07/2013 13:37

Give it her.Tell her six months later when shes used it.After recieving compliments on it it might change her thinking.

Cheeseatmidnight · 08/07/2013 13:38

That's what I'm tempted to do... See how she reacts

Dp Is of the opinion that it would be wasted on her and I should keep it ... Green light to just keep gift!

But I really think she would like it. It had a little leaflet with it explaining where it's made which I would have liked to include as I think it is amazing what these women are doing

Hell yes.

Cheeseatmidnight · 08/07/2013 13:39

Limited... I like that! I could 'find' the leaflet and say it was meant to be with it Smile

Keep it. Get her present from a second hand shop next time and see how she reacts to that. Grin

topbannana · 08/07/2013 16:19

Yes definitely give it to her and then "find" the leaflet later on :o
My SDad is a lively man but very materialistic, in some ways it is quite obscene. So I very very nearly bought him an Oxfam goat one Christmas, my finger was poised over the "buy now" button and everything
Sadly I chickened out as we were going to them for Christmas and I was worried he would spit on my sprouts Hmm

MonParapluie · 08/07/2013 16:22

Sounds lovely, where can I buy one?

allmycats · 08/07/2013 16:24

I would be very naughty and say you got it at a 'pop up' concession in a
big store - 'Harvey Nicks, Harrods, Selfridges or such. Then tell her about 6 months later the truth !!!

sue52 · 08/07/2013 16:38

I like things like Oxfam goats as they don't take up room, don't need dusting and you don't have to wear it or display it your house. I would hate to receive a bag as it might not be to my taste and I would have to grit my teeth and say it was delightful. Just give a goat next time.

squeakytoy · 08/07/2013 16:44

yabu as bags are a personal taste issue.. I wouldnt want someone to buy me a bag unless I had specifically said that I liked it, even if it had been spun by fairies out of unicorn hair..

Cheeseatmidnight · 08/07/2013 20:15

Ha ha, I always buy her bags she uses, I am confident she would like it. It's more the issue of who made it

It's from the Khaled Hosseini foundation.
