Walking along the parade of shops near work at lunchtime I noticed an ad in the window of the newsagents that said 'reliable paper boy wanted for mornings'. Outrageous, I thought, and kept walking (because there's no chance my 13yo DD would get herself out of bed for a paper round!)

Would you have gone in there and challenged the shopkeeper about it? Could it be reported to the council or someone?

I would have assumed paper boy meant paper boy/girl/man/woman.

I would have asked if my daughter could apply and if I was told no would then have explained why they were wrong. In no uncertain terms. Just because your daughter won't get out of bed doesn't mean you can't ask " on her behalf"

That said my daughter is only 16 months so a little too young lol.

Yes. Because it said 'boy' instead of 'person' you should call the council immediately.

Or, better yet, kick your 13 year old lazy ass daughter out of bed to apply for the job.
