It's windy & sunny next doors bloody plinky plinky wind chime is getting on my nerves. I think it's the randomeness of the noise I find really irritating, on off on off, very loud, not so loud, really loud then nothing then just little plinks and chimes and plinks all bloody day long. It's like an little toddler who won't shut up. I like a bit of peace in the garden, they are not even in their garden yet I have to listen to this sodding wind chime all day long as I work from home. AIBU?

YANBU. It is a noise nuisance made worse by its randomness.

We had this with our NDN, and they had up large bamboo wind chimes.

TBH I nearly had a nervous breakdown over the 18 months they were up. I couldn't have my patio door, nor windows open. I dreaded the wind blowing.

In the end I put up a 7 ft fence to try to protect the chimes from the wind. They got the message and took them down - the fence, however, stayed up.

You have my deepest sympathy as I know what you are going through.

Many a night I went next door and took them down and threw them across the garden!

faeriefruitcake · 04/07/2013 19:38

Have you asked them to take them down? I have some but unless I'm in the garden I don't have them plinking and plonking.

Chocotrekkie · 04/07/2013 19:45

I silently raged about this for months until I said to kids loudly in the garden on the first sunny day when everyone was outside how annoying they were...

Then they pointed out they were the ones I'd bought myself from the car boot sale..Blush

Swiftly in the bin !!

CleverClod · 04/07/2013 19:46

You can report this to the local council and hey will write to them asking for their removal.

It's a noise nuisance.

frogwatcher42 · 04/07/2013 19:46

They are awful - you have my full sympathy. If people want to hear them they ought to take them into their houses and hang them indoors near an open window. Why would anybody think it o.k to hang one outdoors where the world can hear but may not wish to.

Talk to your neighbours and explain that you cant escape from the noise. If they don't take them down then start a campaign of noise back each time they sit in their garden. A stereo full blast near their fence, kids kareoke etc etc.

Justfornowitwilldo · 04/07/2013 19:47

Horrible things.

phantomnamechanger · 04/07/2013 19:53

I'd gladly have wind chimes over howling dogs!
But I can see it would be annoying.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 04/07/2013 20:16

I'll swap he wind chimes for cockerels...

Methe · 04/07/2013 20:22

Why don't you just go round and say "sorry to bother you on this lovely evening but I have got to ask, could you please take your windchimes down as they are driving me demented"

You are much more likely to get a bit of piece and quiet by being nice. They probably don't realise how annoying they are. The worst they can say is no and then you can sabotage them undercover of darkness involve the council.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 04/07/2013 20:24

Am I the only one that likes a windchime?! :(

OddBoots · 04/07/2013 20:27

You can't be the only one or people would't buy them but I don't think those who like them realise quite how intolerable they can be to their neighbours.

Beamur · 04/07/2013 20:29

I don't like them either! I'd politely ask if they could take them down when they aren't in their garden as the noise is bothering you.

MrsOB · 04/07/2013 20:30

I love a windchime and have a few in my garden... I dare my neighbours to come round and tell me off... They think it's okay to play 'Kevin bloody Wilson' songs out all day, every sunny day, so fair is fair!! Those who are not familiar with Kevin... Giogle his lyrics... His songs include frequent use of the c and f words.. Windchimes are tame in comparison!!! Smile

Eskino · 04/07/2013 20:32

And kill those bloody sparrows to while you're at it!

Eskino · 04/07/2013 20:32

*too

Beamur · 04/07/2013 20:32

MrsOB given that choice I'd take the windchimes!

SHarri13 · 04/07/2013 20:33

That would drive me up the fucking wall.

YEY it's gone! I think it drove them bonkers too!

Our NDN has a flag pole at the bottom of his garden Hmm
Our houses are detached so aren't even which means our living room and bedroom are right next to this flag pole.

Depending on which way the wind blows (even the tiniest breeze) all you can hear is a persistent tink tink tink as the rope from the flag knocks against the metal pole.

It obviously doesn't bother them as their house is seveal meters away so probably can't hear it.

It drives me bonkers. It's the subtlest of noises but enough to drive me round the bend when I'm trying to sleep!
