Pretentious teacher parents

We had a meeting at DC school this eve to discuss the plans to merge pre prep and reception with main school (currently separate building). Three parents very vocal but in the remit of we know bestand yes better than you teachers. One offered her project management skills for free, and the other two were teachers who basically said in my school we do xyz so therefore I am qualified to advise on this project. AIBU to think f off you patronising people and let the teachers/governors/qualified contractors do their own jobs I am not paying for the privilege of your unverified experience but for the teachers at the school

Wow, they were only trying to help! Presumably the school is quite capable of declining any unwelcome "assistance"?

Why did the school have a meeting to discuss plans if they didn't want any input?

Why wouldn't teachers be able to offer assistance and a perspective in making changes at a school? Seeing as they are the ones working the schools all day and seeing what effect decisions can make, for better or for worse.

Or are you just jealous that no one voted for you to be in charge?

We're they arguing? Being stroppy? Arrogant?

Why not offer a viewpoint if you have been invited to a meeting!

There's feedback and there's telling people you can and would do a better job. I would find that patronising and demeaning.

There's a viewpoint, which all parents would have a right to but just because you've qualified as a teacher, why are you qualified to run a project to merge two schools?

Parents would offer services and their opinions on a project at a meeting like this in our school, but it would generally be taken as helpful. Its probably more about the individual people you are referring to.

I felt sorry for the teachers who I think are doing a great job. Imagine if you chaired a meeting, asked for input then others basically said we can do this better than you!

Ha ha, this made me laugh. Ds2, is Aspie, and we had to go through the whole school with his BF parents (Who are both teachers, one a Dr of teaching) telling advising us "the best way to teach him".

Their son is the one who had to repeat a year. DS2 took A levels 2 years early.

Their son is the one working in McDonalds, as he couldn't get a Uni place. DS2 is studying Civil Engineering.

Before you flame me for being horrible, the BF is actually a lovely lad, but let down in so many ways by his parents.

Depends on what said teacher parents were offering. If it was just we're teachers too pay attention to us then they are just up their own bottoms. However if the school is embarking on something new, having people with experience of whatever that is could save the school time and money ,

This has possibly got little to do with what job they do and more to do with the type of person. 'I know best' come in all shapes and sizes. We have a person who works in a bank who thinks that the summer fair should be run like a small business, we have spreadsheets and charts and margins and staffing structures and everything! It's such fun
