to relocate the caterpillars?

My veg garden is at the back, and the littlest DD has 'rescued' 5489579485(ish) caterpillars from my broccoli and cauli plants.

I said she can't put them back on the plants, but can put them out the front - well away from my veg!

I have just thought though, that my neighbour has HER veg garden in the front.

Will she think I'm nobbling her caulis? Confused

Oh dear. Wouldn't really be right to let them loose on your neighbours veg.

They might not like other leaves though - some caterpillars are pretty specific eaters.

Feed them to the nice birdies Grin

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 15:43

They are now sat next to me in a bowl on the sofa to 'look after'

The birdies will indeed love them Grin ...but then they will never be butterflies...

Sound like cabbage white caterpillars don't they. Could you spare them a few cabbage leaves?

GrimmaTheNome · 01/07/2013 15:49

Do you want brassicas or butterflies more?

If by any chance there's a verge or waste ground with cruciferous weeds, you could rehome them there. (I'm assuming these are cabbage whites)

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 15:55

I'm googling cruciferous weeds now!

Some have been given to the girl down the road to 'rehome' at the park. One is being kept and fed select broccoli leaves.

It may get accidentally left on the bird table after bedtime

Justforlaughs · 01/07/2013 17:21

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 17:25

Cover them in seasoned flour and fry them. A useful form of protein Smile

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 18:48

hmm hidden... but then what would I do with this chicken I've defrosted? Smile

Apparently, in the war, people used to eat woodlice for protein. Taste like prawns.

Feed the birds wivvem

Sokmonsta · 02/07/2013 08:18

Oh I loved the butterflies, and so did the dc. But the munching! (It was funny but we ended up with no veg and very fat caterpillars).

Sokmonsta · 02/07/2013 08:38

I've managed to upload a photo. Our veg garden is probably 3ft by 6ft. And this is a tiny proportion of the whole thing.

OhTiger · 02/07/2013 17:17

I can't see your pics Sad
