To be ridiculously anxious that wedding dress will be ready 7 DAYS before wedding?

Is this a normal state of affairs? I would like to have my dress a couple of months before the wedding for peace of mind. What if something goes wrong and I have a week to find a replacement???

Do most brides collect dress a week before wedding?

I did - it was still being fitted up to a couple of weeks before the wedding.

DjangoDjango · 27/06/2013 18:01

As a dress maker I'd say YABU. The majority of brides lose a lot of weight before their wedding, so I'll always advise leaving it as late as possible.

There's nothing worse than making a dress and then the bride getting in contact in a complete panic 7 days before the wedding asking for a dress to be altered as they have lost 1/2 stone or more!

Bridewars · 27/06/2013 18:03

Mine is arriving in the country 14 days before wedding then have 7 days to shorten, and make adjustments.

The order times on these dresses are ridiculously long!

Django that's a good positive. At least it will fit like a glove.

I'm exercising rather a lot so my body might change shape.

Hav u tried it on and been fitted etc? It was the same with mine and I wasn't even picking it up cos I bought it near my mams. I wud b worried if I'd not seen it though. It's right about the weigh, mine was takeni over 3 dress sizes! I also had th number of a local seamstress just in case and a needle and thread! X

Bridewars · 27/06/2013 18:15

I've tried on the dress sample which was 3 sizes too big.

They are going order a dress in my size and then fit it immediately before the wedding.

I haven't got an accurate idea of how the dress will look because everything sits in the wrong place when it's 3 sizes out.

I was still having alterations done 48 hours before my wedding!

catherine19 · 27/06/2013 18:29

But when they pin it etc u can get a good idea and in my experience they would hav told u if it would look much diff, other then the g ap at the back! When does it get in?

PrincessOfChina · 27/06/2013 18:32

Mine arrives about 4 weeks before our wedding. I think that's about right - I don't want it hanging around at home for ages and will have time to make adjustments based on the fact I'm going to lose a bit of weight before then.

eurozammo · 27/06/2013 18:34

Sounds normal to me.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 27/06/2013 19:04

Sounds normal to me too. I didn't have any fittings until about 3 months before. Collected it a few days before the wedding.

TheBookofRuth · 27/06/2013 19:09

I think that's standard. Seem to remember having my final fitting about ten days before the wedding, and collecting it a few days before.

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/06/2013 19:13

I ordered my dress in September 2012. I had my first fitting in February 2013 and my final fitting will be 4 weeks before the wedding in September 2013.

GuffSmuggler · 27/06/2013 19:18

I had 2 fittings too, one a couple of months before and then one a week or two before.

I would not want to be trying on for the first time 7 days before the wedding as it does look very different to the sample!

angeltulips · 27/06/2013 19:19

I bought my dress online & straight off the rack as I couldn't be bothered with all the fittings malarkey. But I understand from friends that a week before is pretty normal.

farmersdaughter · 27/06/2013 19:22

I collected my dress 2 days before my wedding, final fitting a week before.

It's stressful getting married, but it's more stressful trying to re-fit a dress at short notice if a bride has lots a huge amount of weight.
