To hate those photo competitions on Facebook?

So a local photographer is running a competition on Facebook for babies and children 0-12- parents have to send in a photo and the child with the most 'likes' win.

Now my newsfeed is totally taken up with links saying 'plase vote for xxx' 'please vote for my yyyy' 'please like the picture!'

Angry

Next also done this a few years back to find a model for their catalogue and it got quite nasty!

its really a popularity contest!!!

Definitely a popularity contest, I doubt anyone looks through all the photos and votes for the cutest, it's all about how many friends or friends-of-friends you can persuade to vote for you. And from the company's POV it's all about getting more 'likes' for their page (and thus more advertising revenue from FB).

The idea of a child winning a competition because they're the cutest or prettiest is a bit icky anyway, imo.

For reasons like this I think FB should have a "F off" button

I think anyone who uploads pictures of their kids on fb is barking mad anyway! Once it's on there it doesn't belong to you anymore. I would never enter my children into one of these competitions despite the fact that they would obviously win hands down, nor would I vote for anyone, having said that I've never seen these competitions anyway despite spending copious amounts of time on fb! Obviously I'm not on the right pages

I remember when next did one like that. Drove me potty

WorraLiberty · 26/06/2013 16:23

Block the photographer and their page...then you won't see any of the links.

HenriettaPye · 26/06/2013 16:35

Oh really worra? Thanks for the tip, I hadn't realised that I wouldn't see the shares!

There's even bloody local business pages sharing it for their cousins friends niece's next door neighbour's dog walkers son etc etcGrinGrinGrin

Very annoying!!

I do have pics of my children on Facebook as DPs family live at the other side of the country so like to keep them up to date with pictures as they change so quickly! I also have friends and relatives in America, Australia etc so rather than sending everyone a pic/updates it's easier to have it on Facebook! However all my pics are private.

But I don't need to win a competition to tell me my kids are beautiful!

The Next one got really nasty- jealous parents were writing horrible comments under other children's pictures!

Noooooo! I didn't see the nasty comments, that's crazy!!!
Can't imagine next will be doing that again! I thought about entering my ds until I realised it was a popularity contest.

YANBU. I hate them too. Sometimes I wanted to say: sorry but your child is not the cutest. I just ignore them now.
