YANBU - She's fab :)

Justforlaughs · 26/06/2013 09:47

Who???

Bobyan · 26/06/2013 10:02

She's the US senator who attempted to stop a contentious anti-abortion bill by speaking non-stop for thirteen hours.
The rules of the house meant that she wasn't allowed to drink, visit the loo, eat or even lean on her desk whilst she was talking.

Republicans are trying to claim the vote went through before midnight. Observers are saying it wasn't called until just after.

#standwithwendy was the twitter hashtag over the course of the reading.

Bobyan · 26/06/2013 10:44

At least she tried Smile

YANBU

I've just read that she did it, the bill didn't pass

Bobyan · 26/06/2013 16:37

Relieved to hear it.

Add in the fact that at 19 she was a divorcee with a child living in a mobile home and still managed to get into Harvard Law school and I am humbled.

She is a superwoman

ZolaBuddleia · 26/06/2013 16:43

Bloody hell, that's amazing! Wonder if she also stuck to the rules of 'Just A Minute' and managed to avoid repetition and deviation. Grin

OverAndAbove · 26/06/2013 16:45

She was amazing. So much hostility around her but she was so calm. Respect!

StuntGirl · 26/06/2013 16:51

She did an amazing thing today, I am so happy they managed to defeat the bill.

Bobyan · 26/06/2013 16:52

The trainers and back brace also made me smile - she came prepared!

Dackyduddles · 26/06/2013 16:56

Yup mine too today. Perhaps on mn we should have a hero/heroine spot?

CabbageLooking · 26/06/2013 16:57

Awesome news that she's succeeded. The woman is an inspiration.

javotte · 26/06/2013 17:19

The proposal would have forbidden abortions after 20 weeks.
Phew... women will still be able to abort viable babies.
It would also have meant that abortion clinics would have had to be real surgical centres, so that women using them would be safer.

Bobyan · 26/06/2013 17:31

If the clinics had to be "surgical centres" there would be five clinics to serve the state of Texas which us 3 times the geographic size of England. This making it almost impossible for poor women in rural areas to access their constitutional right to decide if they want to proceed with a pregnancy.

It was an underhand way of making abortion impossible for Texan women. If they want to outlaw abortion the Republicans could at least have the decency to be upfront about what they are doing.

She is amazing.

FruminousBandersnatch · 26/06/2013 18:06

What an incredible woman.

Dawndonna · 26/06/2013 18:06

She's brilliant!

Dawndonna · 26/06/2013 18:08

Yes javotte women will still have the right to decide what happens to them and their bodies.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/06/2013 18:13

javotte
Texas is nearly the size of France, do you really think 5 clinics is sufficient?

Wendy Davis is amazing.

Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 18:14

javotte your opinions are stupid.

Well done to the women of Texas who were there in the gallery as well!

SueDoku · 26/06/2013 19:02
