I was driving home earlier on. I passed my test a few weeks ago and haven't been out in the car much. I had been to another town and I wasn't too sure on the route because I had never been there before. I have noticed that lots of cars don't have indicators that work or have drivers that don't use them. I was at a roundabout and was unsure of where a driver was going so i didnt pull out until It was too late to realise he was going left not right round (no indicator)

A council van was behind me and the driver was blasting his horn and screaming abuse at me to get a fucking move on. I had sat for 30 seconds if that. I eventually moved away and went straight ahead onto a 30mph residential street. I was going about 25mph (there was a school) and the idiot overtook me still blasting his horn and his work mate shouting obscenities out the window to me. I had my 5 day old DD in the car and i was actually quite scared. I had to slow down to let him back him because there was a lorry coming the other way.

AIBU to phone the council and report him? I pulled over and wrote his registration down.

In my opinion, if you are driving a work vehicle, you are representing your company whether it's the council or not.

I'm still pissed off. There was no need for it at all. I know i will come across this sort of thing all the time it's just annoyed me more because it was a council worker.

Sounds like you were being overly hesitant which is likely to piss off a lot of drivers. Horn is fine but no need for the obscenities.

there was no call for any of that behaviour, not that there ever is and he was driving dangerously.

I have reported people in work vehicles for aggressive and dangerous driving - particularly as these vehicles are usually v big (eg hgv that nearly killed me) and driven by such wankers are killing machines.

There was absolutely no need for any of their behaviour - you did the right thing. The more you drive, the more you will be able to spot what another driver is going to do but whenever you aren't sure - wait and don't let anyone bully you into moving before you are ready.

Leave out the bit about you having just got your licence and the bit about having your baby in the car though - as you will be taken more seriously if they don't think you are a 'painful new driver' or 'paranoid new mum'.

Report him. People expect you to risk pulling out on others because their days are so busy and their lives so much more important

I report people in work vehicles driving dangerously. Got an email to fire off later about a knobhead who was doing at least 60mp on a 30 last night after trying to rear end me whilst I was doing 30mph in a 30 zone further down the route!

Report him, his behaviour was totally unnecessary. And AKAK81 that is not a reasonably use of the horn, it is not why cars are built with a horn.

And as Chipping says, the fact you've not had your licence very long and that your dd is only five days old has nothing to do with it, they sound like the sort of idiots who'd do it to anyone they perceive as being in their way - which is anyone else not in a vehicle their size!

And I don't think even just using the horn is fine- it's better to be hesitant rather than pull on out risking an accident.

You may have been hesitant but it sounds as if you had your reasons, so it's his problem. Some people always think they could have been quicker and always will.

Report him. Some people think they own the road and everyone should just clear out of their way. They need pulling up on it and even if they deny the whole thing, their managers will be aware that people don't pick up the phone and report incidents like this lightly.

I'm fully aware as to the purpose of a horn, however if someone is stopped for 30 seconds when its obvious that they could easily pull out I don't think its unreasonable at all. Just making them aware of your presence and basically saying get a move on.

Yes do phone, I had a similar experience when heavily pregnant and crossing at a pelican crossing. The driver was abusive and revving his engine aggressively at me because I didn't get across in time and he had to wait 30 seconds after the light had turned green.

I contacted the charity for elderly people that he worked for and they were horrified. He got a bollocking and a formal written warning. The main manager phoned me personally to apologise.

Please do contact the council, they will be very interested.
