..to be sad that Stripy Mick Aston from Time Team has died?

:(

I know this isn't Telly Addicts but I actually feel quite sad at this news. He was great on Time Team, he and Phil were a breath of fresh air - experts who were there because they knew their stuff. These days even the experts seem to have to also be good looking.

He left before the last series because he felt it had dumbed down (it had) and they brought in an - surprise surprise - a good looking woman.

They brought in a bright good looking woman to be good looking and she got peed off because she wasn't allowed to be bright so she left too I think.

Mick Aston was a great character. He will be missed by many I think.

I was very sad to hear this, I used to love Time Team and I think it was spoiled when he was dropped.
I read that he wasn't consulted but just told in a phone call that he wasn't wanted any more although I don't know if that is true.
I liked him because he wore his learning lightly and could explain things in a simple and easy to understand way. A sad loss.

Oh I am sad to hear this too :(

Gutted. Considering the amount of crap he had to take from that ghastly Robinson, I'm surprised he stuck with the show as long as he did. Great guy, really committed to his profession.

Conference - apparently he was supposed to be the head archaeologist but the powers-that-be got rid of half the archaeologists without consulting him. At the same time, they brought in that bright good looking woman (who may well have been bright but had the personality of a wall) to work alongside him. So he quit.

One of the joys of Mick, Phil, Robin, Francis, Stewart, Guy, Helen, Carenza and Geophys was that they had personality, were enthusiastic and explained things without dumbing down or being patronising about the audience's likely level of intelligence. The bright good looking woman (who herself quit after one year before the final series) talked down to the audience although I am sure this was not her choice but that of the powers-that-be.

They killed the show, although to be fair I think it had probably run its course anyway.

Oh I hadn't heard this sad news.

I met Mick once when I was younger at a dig, he was absolutely lovely.
