This is a huge bug bare for me. Why oh why do drivers not indicate !? My and DD(5) nearly for hit my a car when we were crossing the road this am as there was no indicator on the car and it was stationary at the give way lines as we started to cross he decided he would turn right virtually straight in to us! I asked him why he didnt indicate which way he was going he quickly snapped at me "it doesn't matter" I mean what sort of an answer is that !? "It doesn't matter !? Why is driving so sloppy these days ?

Oh, this is one of my big bug bears too - i am insensed by it, if there is no car they don't indicate - when you are crossing from the same side of the road you would assume then that they are going in the opposite direction. Someone nearly got me and DD last week, i pointed at their indicator with a WTF face, they looked at me like i was mad! (but perhaps i am Wink)

Lonelybunny · 24/06/2013 13:00

Oh hello Lemi :) grrrr it's so annoying but he started rolling his car along to my pace to actually try and argue with me about the fact he didnt use his indicator ! How can he argue about it ? It's fact lol

if he had done that to me, he would have hd to be prepared to get out of the car and argue the toss! with the end of my fist! twat!

Lonelybunny · 24/06/2013 13:06

Exactly ! Well I know his car now you just wait ! Baby oil over the windscreen idea is making me feel better :)

The ones who don't use indicators are always the ones who think they are wonderful drivers too. And who tell other people how to drive.

I had to follow XH once. He didn't use his indicators the whole journey. Bad enough that other road users didn't know where he was going, but how did he expect me to follow?!

On same journey I pulled over into the right lane on dual carriageway to let someone merge- when we arrived where we were going XH asked me what I was playing at changing lanes so close to out exit Hmm
Err... A: I could move back in after, and B: HTF was I supposed to know our exit was coming up when you don't indicate!!

Lonelybunny · 24/06/2013 13:26

It's ridiculous and dangerous imho and the fact he was trying to justify it didnt matter in front if my 5 year old :-/

I literally cannot comprehend why people do this. I wish small, non fatal accidents on them tbh. The way I do with the mental wheel spinners. Just enough to scare them and cause £££ of damage to their own car.

Pseudonym99 · 24/06/2013 15:27

If a pedestrian is crossing the road, the pedestrian has priority over any vehicle turning into it as well, regardless of whether or not they are indicating.

wintersdawn · 24/06/2013 15:30

it's almost as annoying as people who drive along indicating long after their junction has passed. how can that constant ticking in the car not annoy the hell out of them!

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2013 15:44

The fact that people know that other people don't use them causes accidents as well! I saw two cars yesterday, two abreast on the single road. Both didn't have indicators on, one had pulled right over to the side. The second car assumed he was turning and just could be arsed with indicators. They were, in fact, both going straight on. Hilarity ensued. By hilarity I mean, of course, horribly dangerous driving.

EssexGurl · 24/06/2013 15:58

A huge issue for me. Our road is quiet but I still indicate to enter drive even when empty. It is second nature to me.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 24/06/2013 16:02

Wintersdawn I hate that! Drives me absolutely potty! Comes in second only to people who cant get in the right lane on a sodding roundabout....

I hate it too. And some eejits don't realise their indicators are still going after they've turned - I once followed a guy up a mile long road with loads of turn offs with his indicator flashing right... and then he turned left without warning!

Some drivers really do believe they're above everything - I was crossing a road (traffic lights at red) with DD when some knob decided he couldn't wait in the queue of traffic and went up the right hand side of the road, cut through the red lights and nearly ran us over (we jumped out the way just in time!). I shouted 'you bloody idiot!', his window was open and he heard me, he then did the kerb crawl thing down the road with me, lecturing me on how disgraceful it was that I should swear in front of a child!! (of course jumping red lights on the wrong side of the road is perfect ettiquette...Hmm )

RobotBananas · 24/06/2013 16:12

Agree that it's really annoying BUT - you rely on them too heavily. A bulb might be gone, indicator might be broken, or the person might be being a dick and not bothering. Always assume that other car drivers are lazy arses/have broken indicators and they might turn, even if they're not signalling.

Mind you, I've had plenty of occasions where I am clearly indicating to turn into a side road, and loads of times people will just walk out in front of me Hmm (and yes, my indicators work just fine)

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2013 16:13

StickEmUp you know you can use hand signals in an emergency.

wem · 24/06/2013 16:26

My dad drives like this. I've come to the conclusion that he floats around thinking everyone should get out of his way, regardless of whether they know which way he's intending to go! He dared to bitch about someone the exact circumstances you describe OP. I told him if he'd used his indicator she'd have known not to cross. He just shrugged. Grrrr.
