to think DH is being ridiculous?

DH gets very irate about the local news. We live in Scotland so our local news is Scottish.

He shouts at the TV every time and wants to make a complaint that they are racist because they focus on Scottish stories.

It has led to arguments with him calling me racist because I pointed out the point of local news was to focus on local stories. O have also pointed out that London local news focuses on London stories, Midlands local news focuses on Midlands stories. Because of this he accused me of being an anti-English bigot but I can't get annoyed at local news programmes doing local stories.

He's an eejit

And a bit dim Grin

Have you explained 'local' news in short syllables ?

CrowsLanding · 19/06/2013 15:53

Your dh sounds like a bit of an arse.

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2013 15:54

He's a little bit bonkers, isn't he?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 19/06/2013 15:54

Yanbu.

chrome100 · 19/06/2013 15:55

Well our local news is Look North which covers stories anywhere from Newcastle to Lincoln to Liverpool so not very local at all!

Keztrel · 19/06/2013 15:56

Racist? Scottish isn't a race is it? He is indeed being ridiculous.

StuntGirl · 19/06/2013 15:56

I take it he's not Scottish? He's still an idiot, wherever he's from like.

grumpyoldbat · 19/06/2013 15:56

I have explained local news several times now and used every expletive I know in frustration at his refusal to accept facts. I told him to just watch the national news if it bothers him that much.

He's a bit silly. I remember where we were kids getting annoyed with the news when the national one had 'in England and Wales, this happened'.

DH finds regional news hilarious. Cheeky bugger. I find it 'quaint'. In London its how many teens were kifed/involved in knife fights, or romanian gangs picked up for begging - whereas back home it's more of the 'day six. Cat still up tree. Owners mildly conderned'.

WireCat · 19/06/2013 15:58

I have Look East.

It's mostly Norwich. A good 2 hours drive from me.

Sometimes my local news is on there. Other times its on London tonight. Am an hour away from London (by train)

Beeyump · 19/06/2013 15:59

He shouts at the tv every time ? Golly! That must get a bit wearing.

grumpyoldbat · 19/06/2013 16:01

Driving me up the wall bee.

StuntGirl · 19/06/2013 16:01

I hate local news because its often irrelevant unimportant shite dressed up as The Most Important Thing EVAR. I just don't watch it!

I remember when I was on holiday in Florida their news channel ran the exact same story every day for a week about sniffer dogs.

That's a thought, its a great big internet out there, could he find someone elses local news? Perhaps he'd be delighted to hear what they're up to in Tampa Bay or Wrexham or La Plata?

grumpyoldbat · 19/06/2013 16:04

Lol stunt if he just moaned it was boring I wouldn't think him so daft.

OP posts:
FryOneFatManic · 19/06/2013 16:05

Midlands Today focusses on Midlands News because it is about the Midlands

StuntGirl · 19/06/2013 16:07

Out of curiosity, what exactly does he want your local news to cover?

livinginwonderland · 19/06/2013 16:09

We have Look East and like WireCat said, it's always Norwich, or Kings Lynn. The other day it was Milton Keynes which is nearl a two hour drive from me!

MerryOnMerlot · 19/06/2013 16:10

Tell him to watch Sky News - absolutely feck all about Scotland on there.

TigOldBitties · 19/06/2013 16:10

You think your DH is ridiculous, I didn't understand the concept of local news until I was about 34.

I have always lived in London, half the time our 'local' news just repeats whats been on the national news. It was only when I moved out of London did I experience the quaint local news of 'man grows largest cauliflower in the county".

As an entire family we were quite confused as to where I favourite newsreader had gone and why the story quality had dramatically changed.

Owllady · 19/06/2013 16:10

ohhhh me too WireCat....

grumpyoldbat · 19/06/2013 16:11

For that stunt I am yet to get any kind of answer beyond 'not stuff about Scotland'. I have asked what exactly he expects Scotland Today to cover (clue being in the name), but he just huffs.

Groovee · 19/06/2013 16:14

Call him a numpty and look for BBC London if you have sky or virgin

chateauferret · 19/06/2013 18:28

Expecting to see something other than Scottish news on the local news programmes in Scotland is obviously U. If you have Sky he can always tune into BBC East Anglia or whatever he fancies though.

I do laugh every night when Scotland Tonight turns out to be yet another advert for independence though.
