Child Genius on C4 (I know a thread was started last week!)

I know that a lot of comments were made on this last week, but I am flabbergasted at the lack of boundaries Hugo's parents have! Obviously I am not aware of the parenting of a child with this high IQ, but even though my DS has learning difficulties and is about 7 years behind in terms of the normal learning pattern of his peers - he knows right from wrong, manners and how to talk to adults! I know what would happen if when I asked him to log out of something and I was told no....

it's this liberal middle class hippy parenting I tell ya!

cricketballs · 18/06/2013 22:15

I have just seen the other thread about this child - HQ; I am not being rude about the child, more so his parents! The dad to the other child in the prog tonight (who went out of the comp) was seen telling his child off for being rude, so I can't see it as a result of editing....

I had my thread deleted by I guess you have put it more politely Grin I did feel bad for the bluntness of my thread though before anyone starts on me.

I felt very sorry for the other children who were trying to memorise their pack of cards

YouTheCat · 18/06/2013 22:21

I just think it's a vile thing to put a child through, on the telly, for all to judge.

arethereanyleftatall · 18/06/2013 22:22

Editing means you can cut bits out of a program or leave them in. Perhaps both parents told their children off, but the program editors chose to cut Hugo's parents out. That's what editing means.

rusticlanguage · 18/06/2013 22:23

Feels bad when people have a go at you doesn't it bobthebear? At least you can defend yourself. Hmm

bobthebear · 18/06/2013 22:23

My prediction is Oscar will win judging on the way it's been edited. He's been shown as a much more likable character

bobthebear · 18/06/2013 22:26

My parents haven't put me on TV for all to judge. Do you really think my post was the only one like it on the whole of the internet? I'm sure his parents will encounter a lot more like it.

I feel sorry for him and, as I said, I wasn't thinking when I posted. It was a knee jerk reaction

rusticlanguage · 18/06/2013 22:28

Just jerk I think. Just because his parents were fool enough to fall for C4 doesn't mean you have to go in feet first. Anyone with a shred of common decency would know better than to post as you did, naming a child in the title and calling him a brat.

YouTheCat · 18/06/2013 22:28

It's not going to tell you who the most intelligent child is anyway, it'll only tell you who is out of those on the programme.

cricketballs · 18/06/2013 22:55

"but the program editors chose to cut Hugo's parents out" - but they didn't! You saw the mum having a sock thrown at her face and she laughed it off! Their comments constantly speak of them not being able to control him - just try saying no! (or turning the laptop off!)

I've just watched it.

Hugo's parents have really messed up, he's very rude and at the stage now where it will be difficult to rectify it. They're far too soft on his disrespectful attitude, based on their reactions which were actually televised (such as the ones mentioned above by cricketballs)

He is going to be the teenager from hell unless they get a grip, sorry if you're reading Hugo's mum/dad!
