High value small items, very nickable

SauvignonBlanche · 17/06/2013 20:04

They cost a lot.

Because people steal them? Small enough to fit under coat etc, and maybe too embarrassed to be seen buying one?

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 17/06/2013 20:21

Iceland have cheese and meat in security boxes

MrsLouisTheroux · 17/06/2013 20:22

Same with face cream. Expensive and small. They are in locked plastic boxes in the tesco near me!

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 17/06/2013 20:22

To stop people nicking them

Shutupanddrive · 17/06/2013 20:25

Why does it seem odd? Confused

CloudsAndTrees · 17/06/2013 20:28

Yes, YABU.

YABU if you can't work out that they're there because they get stolen. Or you are being very naive.

karatekimmi · 17/06/2013 20:34

Yes!! When I thought I might be pregnant I hoped to sneak in and pay for one at the serve yourself tills without having to see and speak to anyone, but no. They were only about £3 but in a big fuck off box that I had to get some one to open!!

SomethingProfound · 17/06/2013 20:40

It just caught my attention, and I thought it an odd item to steal. Meat alcohol, clothes, electrical goods things that you might see being sold under the table in the local pub I can understand being tagged. It just never occurred to me, that a pregnancy test would be stolen so often that it required security tagging.

Because people may be very embarrassed about buying one, and just steal it instead.

I for one have always used the self service checkouts with ninja speed whilst buying pregnancy tests in boots.

NicknameIncomplete · 17/06/2013 20:59

If i could have had the choice id have stolen a pregnancy test. It would have spared me the embarrassment of going into a busy shop as a teenage school girl on a school trip with jus enough money to buy one.

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 17/06/2013 21:06

You can get pregnancy tests in pound shops now

juniper9 · 17/06/2013 23:00

I had the cashier in Sainsbury's asking me if the pregnancy test I was buying was for me. I said it was for my sister, and she said good- I was too young to have a baby, and she was too old Hmm

manticlimactic · 17/06/2013 23:12

Really Juniper? I wouldn't have been happy about that (and I've been a cashier).

Did you say 'No this is for you. Because when I tell your manager what you just said you'll be fucked' Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/06/2013 23:16

When I worked in a supermarket they got stolen all the time. They are expensive and many woman aren't aware Dr's will do it for free.

My favourite shoplifter was one who stole a pregnancy test, condoms and lubs Hmm Grin

candyandyoga · 17/06/2013 23:19

Please please please don't just use as many dots as you think you can for the points of ellipsis I can't stand it! It is three dots... And only three... Ok?

spiritedaway · 17/06/2013 23:20

manti i just lolled my pants

Shutupanddrive · 18/06/2013 09:11

candyandyoga, really?.....................

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 18/06/2013 10:10

Manti! That's a classic

WilsonFrickett · 18/06/2013 10:16

I once bought one in Sainsbos and the young man on the cash desk sniggered! Shock. I'm not very sure why as obviously I didn't call him on it, but gathered my stuff and scuttled away as fast as my tiny (and as it turned out, non-pg) legs would carry me.

But I have to say, I wouldn't buy a pg test in a pound shop. There's no way I'd be trusting a cut-price poas.
