Wahooo - my very first car parking thread!

So, everyone agrees that you should only park in parent/child parking if you actually have a child with you? yes - good

You should never park in disabled spaces unless you are disabled -yes - good.

So why is it then that TESCO have, on a saturday evening, filled ALL of the disabled spaces with their home delivery vans?

Have i missed something? Have disabled shoppers agreed not to go to the supermarket at a specific time?

Thats all really.

I would think Tesco can park their own vans where they like on their property

They obviously CAN but that doesn't make it right.

Nor is it helpful to people with disabilities who need to park close to the shop.

They can park their vans INSIDE the store as far as im concerned, it if means they don't have to walk futher than they have to with their deliveries. But realy Holly, do you actually think that is the point?

Its not just being able to park close the shop, disabled spaces are wider to allow for wheelchair access.

As I've yet to see any supermarket heaving on a Saturday evening, generally because the shelves are empty by that time, I doubt there was mad rush for parking spaces.

Perhaps - TESCO is an equal opportunities employer and all the delivery drivers had blue badges.

Perhaps this is where they securely park them over night, under CCTV cameras

The people with badges need to park in THOSE spaces.

Well if they did then they wouldn't have been able to would they! As i said above its not about a disabled person being able to get a parking space, its about them being able to get a parking space with adequate access and yes, nearer to the store.

Do they only have CCTV cameras in the disabled spaces then?

Think it through, and I was talking 5pm, it was pretty busy when we were in there

Clearly according to Holly..you must only cater for people with disabilities.most of the time andnot when store is quiet.

No no, fanjo, don't project I can perfectly understand what holly meant - she means, she couldnt give a shit about disabled parking and is bored and posting to be controversial. Doesn't really care one way or another but fancies a bun fight so is posting contradictory posts. I'm not projecting, tis what i think.

That isn't the point. They should be available at all times whether busy or not. It is not for anybody else to dictacte when people with disabilities want or need to go shopping. The assumption is that those poor disabled people are all tucked up in bed at that time of night.
Occasionally I go shopping during the late evening, and occasionally dd likes to go with me. The spaces should be free should dd choose to go at such a time.

I asked at my local Sainsbury's store recently why the night staff parked in the disabled bays, leaving none for customers. The man on the customer service desk told me that they don't get any disabled customers in in the evenings.
I was in my wheelchair. The irony appeared lost on him.

I'd have a little more respect if the Op had presented the thread thus:

To the customer service person/security guard/manager "Excuse me, your vans, they're parked in the disabled bays, is there a reason for that, only people may need to use them"

Rather than a whingefest of passiveness. Be proactive, do something about it, challenge if you have to but, but the meek and mild sitting back and moaning about things does annoy me. Hence I'm challenging your perceptions. Because I can.
