The binmen have broke my bins

Hey all.
I'm a bit annoyed at the moment and i need a good rant.
I have 2 large bins, 2 large boxes for plastics and paper and 2 food caddy things.

Everytime the binmen empty my bins they chuck them back onto my drive. They've damaged them so badly that they can't be used.
I watched the binman empty the food caddy and he dropped the lid into the bin truck! He just chucked my lidless caddy back down and walked off.

I have spoken to my council and they say i have to pay to replace my bins. I can't afford it at all. What should i do?

I should point out that my black rubbish bin is fine.

You needto submit a written (email) complaint to them, on their website. You state clearly what happened and what time it was and so on.
The man broke your bin and chucked the lid in the truck.

Why on earth should you have to pay? Keep on at them.

One of my boxes has got a huge hole at the base. If i put anything into it, it just falls out.
I'm more concerned with my food caddy, i don't want to attract mice Sad

I have spoken to them quite a few times, i suppose i need to be more firm.

Perhaps you should tip the binmen next Christmas so they like you a bit more?

HollyBerryBush · 15/06/2013 19:56

My council replaces free of charge. I email them at least once a month for new bin lids - they just deliver them, lose them, I email again, you would think they would get the hint by now or give the ""operatives"" lessons in returning said lids instead of flinging them up the drive.

RoooneyMara · 15/06/2013 19:57

Are they refusing to accept responsibility or what? What is their take on it?

HollyBerryBush · 15/06/2013 19:58

Video them - then attach it to an email

DeepRedBetty · 15/06/2013 19:59

Why should OP have to bribe the binmen? I tip after good service, not before to avoid bad!

My whole bin ended up in the truck when the mechanism jammed , and the only way to release it was to dump it in the back of the lorry ! Fortunately I rang the cou cil and they said it was quite common, and dropped another one off . I felt quite deflated actually . There I was , all ready for a fight , and they just laughed and said 'no problem , have another ' . Cheated I was .

I had this at Christmas with one of my wheelies, bin man broke the wheel clean off and I had to retrieve it from the road.
Phoned council to report it and they said as the bin man in question hadn't filled in a damage report there was nothing they were willing to do. Cost us £20 for a replacement.

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 15/06/2013 20:15

I don't tip anyone but i have made them hot drinks when it was freezing.

I'm just worried because i can keep doing trips up to the tip all the time. I really needs my bins.
It seems to be quite a problem in my area and bins are going missing.

My council is profligate with bin distribution. they brought me a new one, a smaller one than the original, a bin replacement scheme. They did not take away the old bigger bin. I queried that, on account of only being allowed one bin, and was told "people like bins, they use them for other things"

Hmm

I queried that too - up the allotment apparently.

Havent got one.

I have a whole family of bins out there now

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 15/06/2013 20:22

My neighbour across the road has a vast collection of bins, god knows hows she's got them lol.
