To think some far right groups are an absolute disgrace?

so we have a protest in local town centre by a well known far right racist and homophobic group. The sheer amount of police there...it makes me mad! Nit only am I running late for work because of a road closure because of these knobheads march, but I'm really angry at the waste of resources these idiots make.

Which ones aren't a disgrace?

OxfordBags · 15/06/2013 13:03

A) ALL far-right groups are a disgrace.

B) The waste of police resources is the least disgraceful aspect to them.

annabanana84 · 15/06/2013 13:03

Sorry, should've been ALL far right groups...they're all as bad as each other.

All even slightly right groups are a disgrace. I'm including the Labour party in this.

jammiedonut · 15/06/2013 13:09

Some?

I hear you...

The Police are apparently under instruction from the Home Office to police these marches appropriately, partly because of the 'possible counter protests'. And the Home Office says that they have the right to meet and march.

Why can't the EDL they just hire a draughty church hall like everyone else and have a meeting and a debate?

Why have they got to waste public money with their badly-attended carnival marches? Every march that has to be policed is funding taken from a drug programme, a DV project, a 'safe space'.

lljkk · 15/06/2013 13:14

Some far left groups are pretty embarrassing, too.

OxfordBags · 15/06/2013 13:15

Which ones are those, Lijkk?

OxfordBags · 15/06/2013 13:15

I love you, Waffly Thanks

catgirl1976 · 15/06/2013 13:16

YANBU

I live near a town that seems to attract these marches. :(

LadyBeagleEyes · 15/06/2013 13:16

Were'nt there preemptive strikes by the police before the G8 protests?
Yet the EDL get away with it.

Iactuallydothinkso · 15/06/2013 13:17

I hope the EDL (English Disco Lovers) are there having a party mate in the face of hate!

Big up to the disco massif!

Ha! I'm 41, the sheer writing down of "massif" has made me laugh.

seesensepeople · 15/06/2013 13:18

Yes they are a disgrace, yes they are vile BUT like all of us they have the right to free speech. The police are needed to protect them from the dafties that think stopping them protesting will change their views (also to protect the rest of the public if things get out of hand).

Part of the police budget is for policing marches and protests - it's what we pay our taxes for.

UrbaneLandlord · 15/06/2013 13:18

Are "far-left" groups also a disgrace?

And if not, why not?

LineRunner · 15/06/2013 13:19

One of my friends is in the SWP and I often say hello to them protesting in the main street. All two of them. And he has a megaphone.

That's a bit embarrassing.

But in a sweet and British way.

mrsjay · 15/06/2013 13:19

they just hire a draughty church hall like everyone else and have a meeting and a debate?

because it isn't near a pub and half of the edl can't string a word together

Sunnywithshowers · 15/06/2013 13:21

YANBU

LineRunner · 15/06/2013 13:22

Fair point well made, mrsjay. I have heard that the EDL like a beer or twelve.

RazzleDazzleEm · 15/06/2013 13:26

Anything Far Left or Far Right are a disgrace most views that are militant and tight with no room to manoeuvre are usually a disgrace. Anything that shuts down debate with name calling is a disgrace, the loss of freedom of speech is a disgrace, the loss of lots of things are a disgrace.

It all goes round in a big circle and meets each other in the middle.

The best way to tackle groups like this is to discover why they exist and tackle grass roots issues, not the end game like marches.

mrsjay · 15/06/2013 13:29

yes they do linerunber then end up fighting with themselves although they are stupid people and they are the most dangerous imo

HollyBerryBush · 15/06/2013 13:37

Everyone has the right to peaceable demonstrations - personally I would hate to be in a closed society where you couldn't challenge government. China anyone? Or Zimbabwe? or Afghanistan?

The BNP had a march refused the other week in Woolwich.

I suppose it's like the Orange parades in NI - it's designed by one side to cause trouble by marching on anothers turf. CBA with the antagonism of all of them, it's all sectarian bollox.

NicholasTeakozy · 15/06/2013 13:54
anyone? :o
Alisvolatpropiis · 15/06/2013 13:59

Yabu - all of them are a disgrace.

mrsjay · 15/06/2013 14:07

Oh I tried to explain on a thread the other week about the edl supporter and his rant and I couldn't remember the exact words so my sarky comments were lost Muslamic rayguns FANTASTIC Grin
