To think this is rude?!

Not sure if I am overreacting here but I personally thought it was very rude and wanted others opinions.

I take a friend (A)home from a club every week. It's a 15min journey and we usually have a nice chat about where we've just been/catch up in general.
A second friend (B) came home with us tonight and talked to her DP the WHOLE journey and very loudly. She was talking very loudly and when friend A tried to talk to me (she was in the back and B was in the front), B talked louder to drown us out.

I thought it was the height of rudeness, nothing in particular in her call, just how was your day and then a big thank you for the amazing flowers he sent her today Hmm and how she just knew they were for her when they arrived at her office etc.

Was it rude of her to talk to him the whole car journey, so loudly we couldn't talk over her do had to listen to it all in silence.

Nope. It's bloody rude!

SquinkiesRule · 13/06/2013 23:05

YANBU she was rude

Salmotrutta · 13/06/2013 23:07

Very rude.

Was she on the phone or was he in the car too?

If she was on the phone that's doubly rude!

Can't abide people who talk on mobiles in the presence of others!

PenguinBear · 13/06/2013 23:07

He was on the phone to her!

Very very very annoying.

BriansBrain · 13/06/2013 23:09

She was rude and stealth boasting all rolled into one.

She wouldn't be getting in my car and ruining the journey again.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 13/06/2013 23:10

Is he in Afghan? The other side of the world and unlikely to return? Is he working tonight?

Very few reasons why this would not be the height of rudeness.

Don't offer her a lift again.

marriedinwhiteagain · 13/06/2013 23:12

Sorry B, I can't hear A - would you mind awfully piping down or shall I pull over and you can both swap seats. You didn't deal with it; stop sweatoing the small stuff.

PenguinBear · 13/06/2013 23:12

They love apart but she speaks to him everyday. I heard
Him ask if she could talk as she said she was in the car. He even offered to call her back and she said no, now was fine to talk Angry

friend A should have initiated the unofficial rule of travel whereby the regular passenger gets to sit in the front, and the occasional passenger makes do with the back.

Friend B was rude. And stealth boasty.

treaclesoda · 13/06/2013 23:15

Friend B wasn't one of those passengers who dashed for the front seat was she?

Salmotrutta · 13/06/2013 23:22

She is a rude caaaaah.

FatherHankTree · 13/06/2013 23:25

I'd have said 'Oi! be quiet, I'm trying to drive', but I'm known for being blunt. Marriedinwhiteagain's response is the more diplomatic version Grin

PenguinBear · 13/06/2013 23:28

Live not love*

OP posts:
HooverFairy · 13/06/2013 23:31

Definitely rude! And obviously insecure and needing to put her relationship in your (or your friend's) face.

PenguinBear · 14/06/2013 05:58

Yeah, it did seem that way!

Justforlaughs · 14/06/2013 06:27

I wouldn't have done it, but if you didn't say anything then how was she supposed to know that you were annoyed? Confused. Next time, IF there is a next time, tell her to pipe down, you are trying to have a conversation. (Or if you want to be more subtle, try turning the radio up loud)

PenguinBear · 14/06/2013 18:59

I'll try that next time! :)

Mia4 · 14/06/2013 19:37

YANBU, really rude, next time say something. Given the conversation, i wonder if she wasn't showing off to you regarding her DP and the flowers.

Fakebook · 14/06/2013 19:59

Rude. Very rude. I try not to take dh's calls when I'm in company with friends, especially in a closed space such as a car!
