Pretty much every time I make something to eat my cat suddenly decides that she needs a shit and must use the litter tray immediately! I eat and serve dinner at different times every day, so it can't just be that her shitting routine coincides with our eating pattern.

She's a housecat so I can't kick her out while we are eating. It's just so off putting, especially as she always comes into the room we are eating in afterwards, sits infront of us and licks her arse (usually while staring at me ).

She must be doing this on purpose surely?? I pointed it out to DH and he said I was being bonkers, but has now realised that she is doing it at pretty much every mealtime!! She is known to be quite a jerk in other areas, so it really wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of evil intent behind this!

Could you put her litter tray in the bathroom/loo?

Yes she's doing it on purpose, she's pissed off that you've got nicer food than her and you're not sharing.

It may be a gastric reflex where cat smells the food. This stimulates gastric juices which then triggers bowel movement.

Either that or cat is really evil and is trying to tell you what she thinks of your cooking

yes it is a dirty protest to the rubbish cat food you are feeding her , when my cat was around she would jump in the window at dinner time and lie down and lick her arse every time , witht he leg up in the air ,

My friends cat waits until she's on the phone and then decides to take a flying leap at the mantelpiece or shelves scattering things everywhere, scale the curtains, swing from the chandeliers etc

There's a Horizon show tonight on bbc2 about cats. They have tiny cameras fitted to their collars and we see what they really get up to and where they go.

I wondered if it was something to do with smelling the food, but she does it when I have none smelly food too! This morning I had shreddies and she still did it!!

The litter tray is in the hallway away from where we eat, but she is so noisy about it you can hear her anywhere. Then there is the delightful load of litter all through the hall to clean up afterwards! It makes me laugh that she comes all the way into the lounge where we are to lick her bum afterwards... Now that's commitment to pissing someone off.

Just to say, she is a complete jerk, but we love her even more for being like it. I think she's sassy!

My cat knows I am terrified of rats, it is not that I just do not like them they make me feel sick. I went away for a week when we came home he was being a little arsy two days later brings one home (very small one probably only one he could catch stalked it planning his revenge) he looked so pleased with himself mice, frogs birds do not bother me and he knows this. I never thought he was like that I have been fooled for years

Must watch that show no doubt they will wonder into other peoples homes looking sad and pretending they are not feed and unloved

There was a clip of the show this morning and the Professor did say that while we think we own the cats it's actually the other way round and they own us , made me titter!

OH i never owned my cat ever she came and went as she pleased demanded food and would Yam in the middle of the night so I would get up and let her in the bedroom where she snored all night, yip I was a cat owner all right

My cat does her business the second I change her litter - she literally wrestles with me while I am trying to change it then jumps straight in. Little imp.

My indoor cats do this too, drives dh batshit.

Cats know exactly how to piss humans off, my old cat used to physically attach herself to anyone who didn't like cats, she would jump on their knee purring and start to do that whole getting comfy routine then lie down and go to sleep. If she could stretch out up the persons body she was very happy! We had to put her out when certain people showed up but then she would sit on the windowsill outside and stare at them...

Your cat is making a dirty protest over something by the sounds of it!

Worryingly my cat does all the things you have described and more. She is black and white by the way.

A list of a few of her little quirks:

• She pukes in my shoes. Even new ones so its not a comment on foot odour.
• She trips me up, all the time.
• She refuses to come when I call her for her food, then the rest of the time tries to lead me to it to give her some.
• She doesn't want to be on your lap unless you are trying to read, eat, 'cuddle' with DH or are about to get up.
• She doesn't bother with our friends/family, but is all over any other sort of visitor, eg midwife etc.
• She stares you in the face whilst she claws up the leather sofa, very much in a 'fuck you' sort of way (despite having a floor to ceiling cat scratcher that children often want to climb on).
• She doesn't bother coming to see you when you get in unless you are struggling in with a weeks worth of shopping, in which case she is literally rolling on your feet.
• She gives you the evil eye if you do anything that displeases her. If she could talk she would tell you that your days are numbered, and if you weren't supplying the food you would be long gone already.

That's to name just a few! I do love my cat!

Hehe! Mine craps in the litter tray just before DH comes home, every time. And it's always really stinky. It's his job to clean it out so her timing is excellent.
On a slightly different topic, I have a pony who will come and poo right next to the wheelbarrow when I am cleaning up the field. Once I managed to put the bucket under his tail as he lifted it and all the poo went in the bucket. I thought he was quite clever for doing that.

Mine once weed in my handbag, and I didn't realise until I had walked all around town with it, giving people dirty looks and thinking someone really stinks of piss.

Cats go to people who don't like them because in cat body language, narrowing eyes and looking away is being friendly. Looking straight in the face with open eyes is being confrontational
